SAMARA Ramnath cracked an unbeaten 45 to steer Trinidad and Tobago to a nine-wicket victory over Barbados when a T20 Tri-series bowled off at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva on June 24.

The tournament, which is being used as preparation for the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Women's Under-19 Championships in Trinidad next month, will also feature Windward Islands.

Barbados struggled to keep the scoreboard ticking, only managing 68/5 in 20 overs. Only two batters got into double figures for Barbados. Naijanni Cumberbatch top scored with 18 off 30 balls with one four and Theanny Herbert-Mayers struck 14 off 27 deliveries with two fours. Barbados could not find the fence regularly, only hitting five fours in the innings.

Brianna Harricharan was the best bowler for TT with 2/10 in four overs.

In reply, TT raced to 69/1 in 11.2 overs to ease to victory. Unlike Barbados, TT struck fours more often hitting nine of them. Ramnath's 45 not out came off 35 balls and included eight fours.

Powell: 'Good to see buzz back in Caribbean for cricket, we know how long it had died down'

Mon, Jun 24, '24

WI World Cup
West Indies' T20 World Cup 2024 campaign came to an end with defeat to South Africa in Antigua on Sunday, but their captain Rovman Powell was full of praise for the progress they made as a team in the year leading up to the competition.

"I think when you look on a large scale, we haven't won the World Cup. We aren't in the semi-finals. [But] I think the cricket we have played in the last 12 months or so is commendable," Powell said in the post-match presentation ceremony. "Credit has to be given to the team. If you can take a year to move from number 9 to number 3 in the world, that's tremendous work."

"We haven't won the World Cup, but there was a lot of improvement. There's a lot of buzz around the Caribbean again about West Indies cricket. We have done some very good things over the last 12 months.

"Now is where the work starts. It's for us to continue to work as a group, still be tight, and hopefully, just hopefully, we can continue to climb the rankings and make the Caribbean people proud," Powell said.

WI Academy put up fight, but Emerging Ireland eye 4-day win

Fri, Jun 21, '24

Media Watch

WEST Indies Academy allrounder Kadeem Alleyne and pacer Johann Layne put in impressive performances on the third day of the four-day match against the Emerging Ireland team as they kept the visitors alive at The Green, Comber, Northern Ireland on June 20.

Heading into Friday’s final day, the Windies Academy were placed on 193 for six in their second innings – still 151 runs away from landing their first victory on tour. The Irish team need just four wickets to claim victory, though, as they aim to continue their streak after getting a commanding 3-0 win in the preceding One-day series.

Emerging Ireland made 283 in their first innings, before bowling out the Windies Academy for 214 inside 50 overs to assume a 69-run lead. The Irish then took a 134-run lead into the third day after closing day two on 65 for two.

After bagging figures of four for 84 in the first innings, the lanky Layne went to work on day three as he wrecked to the top and middle-order to finish with the impressive figures of five for 39 from his 13 overs.

Windies face fellow hosts USA after hurtful loss to England

Fri, Jun 21, '24

WI World Cup

GROS ISLET, St Lucia (CMC) — West Indies made a timid start to the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup when their batting failed to ignite, and Phil Salt continued his love affair with their bowling and waltzed England to an eight-wicket win on Wednesday.

West Indies will have to regroup in quick time as they are to face Group A runners-up and fellow tournament co-hosts United States in their next match on Friday under the lights at Kensington Oval. Thereafter they head to Antigua for another night match against Group D winners South Africa at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.

England meet the South Africans in their next match on Friday morning at the DSCG before they complete their Super Eight schedule against the Americans on Sunday morning at Kensington Oval.

On Wednesday, the Caribbean men could not get into gear after they were put in to bat and opener Brandon King retired hurt on 23 with a side strain in the fifth over, and their final total of 180 for four from their allocation of 20 overs always looked inadequate on a hard, true Daren Sammy Cricket Ground (DSCG) pitch.
