Something WI cannot think about at the moment...

So does that mean Sri Lanka is worse than West Indies?

Bangladesh will become a better team when they start to control themselves, they always allow "ambition to overrule their judgement".
Pakistan used to be the same, and from what I heard and read,West Indians used to be the same.

Bangladesh at the moment, will more than likely beat "West Indies Barbados" lol

Bangladesh will do well as long as they are not extremist..

dayne 2017-03-19 07:23:40

Bangladesh rise could be attributed to them having one of the best all-rounders in the game today in Shakib, the WI have no player of that stature at the moment who could swing a game in their favor.

Sri Lanka trying hard to join us in the bottom half.

The test rankings. ...

7) Sri Lanka 90
8 ) west indies 69
9) Bangladesh 66

They are not far away from us.

There is a de facto two tier system already in test cricket.

The top six....

India
Australia
South Africa
England
Pakistan
New Zealand

The bottom four. ....

Sri Lanka
West indies
Bangladesh
Zimbabwe

Give Afghanistan and Ireland test status and formalise the two tier system. The bottom teams can give the top six a fight at home only so IMHO that's how our fixtures should be in future. Play home and away against the bottom six and play at home only against the top six.

At this moment, Bangladesh can easily beat WI in both Test and ODI. Without the stars, and judging by the performance against England, Afghanistan will give us a run.

Folks need to understand this.

You can say so if you are confident of beating SL in SL

analyst-kid 2017-03-19 10:45:42

I keep telling you all that WI FC players have favourable stats against Bang.

Players like Kraigg, Kirk Edwards,Best, Fidel...

Guys with express pace like Gabriel, Joseph and Leveridge would do well against Bang and patient batsmen who have faced Pak,Sri and Ind spin like Kraigg,Hope, Carter and guys like Ambris would do well...hell Lewis and Powell would parade!

Sri Lanka is not as strong as we think with our A teams doing quite well against them in Sri Lanka.

WI would do well to expose players like Cornwall, Leveridge and many others against Bang.

Baje 2017-03-19 11:01:20

They did what Australia could not do

After the Pak series WI could well be in 9th ranking in tests for the first time...

analyst-kid 2017-03-19 11:04:43

Remember Sri Lanka would be hard pressed to beat WI in the WI.

WI need to start beating Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka in order to rise up the ratings....they will continue to beat Bang home and away...unless the selectors pick a crap team void of genuine pace bowlers and Bishoo.

I remember a time When the Asian countries used to struggle in the WI. Then the wickets were too quick for the subcontinent teams to cope up with.

We might have to use the fastest wickets against the Asian teams.

Bang fraid genuine pace...When Tino Best avgs 14.33 in Bang with 12 wickets with two 5fers (6/71) and an economy rate of 2.98, Fidel Edwards 28.60 in Bang with 15 wickets with two 5fers (6/90)....Roach overall avg 20.40 with 25 wickets (6/4cool what does that tell you?

Gabriel, Joseph and Leveridge would parade against Bang!

And don't talk about Bishoo! His overall stats vs Bang reads avg 21.18 with 11 wickets with one 5fer (5.90)

WI has won all the matches when the stars were playing except for one match in 2004 which was drawn.

That was a longggg time ago my friend. If you want to get by on it so he it but thia Bangladrsh side is better then the Wesy Indies in all facets of the game doesn't matter who we select

Pacy 2017-03-19 14:33:09

True. Long time ago. Even today if we have Gayle's and fidels in our team we would be many times better than what we put on field today.

Pacy 2017-03-19 14:34:09

In reply to hawk

I agree that Bangladeshi's have gradually improved but even today, if we have our best playing for us I dont think they can beat us at home. In Bangladesh it is a completely different we would be struggling.

the venue doesnt matter, and our so called best is not available or interested in the longer format, we need to stop harping on this and move on, our current crop of players just need to work on their game and improve, if they don't next time we meet Bnagladesh...here or there.....we will lose hands down

I agree with this. My response was for your statement that even with stars we would lose.

I still feel our stars are much better than the current bunch but they are not near WI side any more. As far s the current crop beating Bangladeshis is a huuuuge question mark even if they improve. But WI cricket has been going on wishes and hopes for long... So let us wait and watch.

The Pak series at home should show how the tide is going.

I want you to know that those fast bowlers who excelled against Bang like Best and Fidel ALL did well in Bang.

More than you can ever imagine, but let it be known...West Indies are a very weak side, even when the stars were playing, back then they were still better than Bangladesh, now Bangladesh has come so far and challenging sides far better than the west Indies

analyst-kid 2017-03-19 16:44:01

lets see...our batting; This is a list of all our current eligible batsmen who have played against Bang in test matches ..I have put stats for Holder and Dowrich against Pak since they never played against Bang

Darren Bravo avg 40.00 avg vs Bang 62.77
Leon Johnson avg 25.18 avg vs Bang 53.50
Marlon Samuels avg 32.64 avg vs Bang 69.42

Denesh Ramdin avg 25.87 avg vs Bang 48.74
Bowling

Shannon Gabriel avg 38.12 avg vs Bang 29.60 5 wickets
Davendro Bishoo avg 37.00 avg vs Bang 21.18 11 wickets

analyst-kid 2017-03-19 16:47:13

Not one of our batsmen have averaged below 40 against Bang!

And none of our bowlers above 30.....still feel Bang can beat WI?
last test series WI should have beaten Pak 2-1 instead of losing 2-1!

hawk 2017-03-19 17:05:23

In reply to analyst-kid

your stats are noted, but this is not the same Bangladesh side we played against in 2012 and prior, vast improvements, I call it as I it on current form, and i see a better Bangladesh albeit we did well in UAE, as stated the upcoming Pak series will tell us if that was a flash in the pan or progress.

analyst-kid 2017-03-20 15:05:20

In reply to hawk

C'mon...you are not analysing the cricket properly. No way Bang could have beaten Sri Lanka if they had a Vaas or Malinga to accompany Herath. Two hungry fast medium bowlers in Lakmal avg 49 and Gunaratne avg 82 will not deter Bang although WI fast medium Pedro Collins used to rip apart Bang ave 16 with 26 wickets against them.

I seriously doubt if this Sri Lanka team could beat a more experienced WI test team now...last time Samuels and Ramdin severely let us down as experienced players against them.

Bang fraid express pace...Sri Lanka tried to beat them with spin alone (Herath and Perera) and failed.

hawk 2017-03-20 20:34:59

In reply to analyst-kid

I don't look at cricket with "ifs" i look at the 11 taking the field right now, but in all honesty Vaas and Malinga makes Sri Lanka a different team and way above Bangaldesh.....but...they are not playing, conversely this Sri Lanka would not beat a West Indies side of 2012, however they both will beat a West Indies side of 2017, i don't think as a team we are good enough right now but i am reserving final judgement until after the Pakistan test

analyst-kid 2017-03-20 21:42:14

In reply to hawk

The WI team of 2012 couldn't beat Pak in Pak in no test.

This side should have won that series vs Pak...WI bowling in my opinion is on the improve and that means a team capable of taking 20 wickets.

analyst-kid 2017-03-20 21:48:46

The emergence of Joseph to join Gabriel along with the return of Roach with Bishoo,Holder and Chase means that WI can mount competitive bowling....we couldn't say that for a while now.

Teams with all spin attacks like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will hardly stop this WI team now after they have faced Pak and Ind.

hawk 2017-03-20 22:57:16

In reply to analyst-kid

Our bowling hasn't too often been the issue, it is the batting, over the years our batting has been incapable of posting scores that would challenge the major test sides, taking 20 wickets is great but that won't happen often unless you put decent runs on the board...we have not been dong this
Roach has not returned to the team as yet, Bishoo....blows hot and cold, Holder's development is way to slow, Chase will be challenged to keep his spot in the team, his modest returns this season could pave the way for someone else. that being said if they can seriously challenge Pakistan then i am happy to reverse my position
