Marshall more explosive, Hetty a more complete batter

Hetmyer is a proven leader. A young batsman with a lot of confidence. He could read situations better than any young captain in the region. Xavier was a exceptional batting talent but not known for much more.

How so?

You know limited overs U19 cappo doan say much

Winning the U19 WC is a phenomenal achievement for the WI team

Off my head Bradshaw, Ryan Hinds, Deonarine, Leon Johnson , Ramdin ,Steve Jacobs....were U 19 cappos

Based on gut feeling...I believe WI is pushing Hety too fast..we are not learning...we have destroyed too many youths looking for a quick fix.

I will happily munch on crow at the end of the series

imusic 2017-04-18 23:27:34

This Hety fella mus be something special.

I eagerly await

Clearly you know nothing about the X-Man or else you would never compare the two.His demise cricket wise had nothing to do with batting talent. His problems were similar to Franklyn Rose.

X-Man really came to limelight in the U-19 WC during his time. Eventhough he did not do much in the FC level he had a high point before being selcted.

Hetmeyer has not stood out with performance so far. He is just showing some signs of performance and would have been better to spend another year in the FC and A tours.

In the interest of fairness and racial equality, your next thread should be titled Xman Marshall v Vishal Singh.

Don't you agree?

......................................

On second thoughts, perhaps I would be better informed if only I knew your motivation for starting this thread. I am quite willing to concede on this matter.

I thank you for your timely response. But don't you think your concern is also applicable to Mr. Singh and what is meant by "pushing too fast"?

Is "pushing too fast" a euphemism for not ready for test cricket?

I firmly believe, if Hetmyer is not ready for test cricket then Vishal Singh plays his first test.

I absolutely do not agree

How does racial equality come into this?

I am looking at two U19 stars...Xman 12 years ago....Hety currently

At the time...many felt including me...that Xman was rushed into the test team...I am saying this may be happening to Hety now

Vishaul Singh is close to 30 years old...why would I want to compare him to Xman

AND I WANT TO MAKE IT ABSOLUTELY CLEAR...I AM NOT INSINUATING HETY IS USING ANY ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES

Let me concede on your points above, with the exception of the ILLEGAL substances issue of which I have no interest in pursuing, nor it is any of my business.

Now on purely the point of "being rushed", you may wish to focus on my subsequent post and make your views public.

I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT KNOW

And when I brought up Xman....it is NOT about his use of any illegal substances...it was the similar circumstances of being a U19 batting star who was promoted to test cricket

Andy99 2017-04-19 09:32:38

Het has scored runs and done a decent-good job in FC level, something that Xman never did.

Give him another year playing in our dung heap

or do like Polly does send a player to play in the second division English leagues for a season.

Cupboard is arguably more bare than when X-Man came around.

I doubt X-Man's FC average ever touched 30 much less 27-28. Hety's is in the mid 30's and heading in the right direction.

Similarities include that they're both U19 batting talents rushed into the WI team (but they're not the only ones?).

I believe Hety's selection is a horses for courses selection, he dominated the Pak attack, and WI seems like they want to use lefties to counter Yasir, as we saw he struggled to Warner and Renshaw.

Regardless of his results this series, he should be on the next A-team tour.

Baje 2017-04-19 10:16:16

Hetty has more shots, all around the wicket. X-Man was extremely strong driving through the offside, but you could could keep him quiet with length balls on the stumps. Hety moves around his crease more and creates more room

I see where you are coming from about race
I can assure you...if Hety plays and Singh does not...I would not have a problem at all
I have a bias for younger players making their test debut....Singh is 28...Hety is 20
Also I have stated here before...I will not rant and rave for Singh...I have seen him struggle to get the ball off the pitch...even though in very recent years...he has become more fluent.
Having said that...Singh has earned his call up too...must make use of the opportunity if selected in the final XI...at his age I don't expect him to be given many chances.

So, Hetmyer is NOT READY FOR TEST CRICKET...

...and VISHAL SINGH is READY.

Got you loud and clear now.

I am not quite sure what you trying to establish here.

Fore the records....on this board we have had this debate whether Xman was ready...whether Barath was ready...Kraigg Brathwaite was ready....Shai Hope was ready...now Hety

I get the feeling you think I have some ulterior motive with this thread

This ends here

Maan...I have to explain everything in detail for you.wink Slow day today?

Singh is an "ole fart' who made the test squad...he has been around for 8 years having debuted for Mudland since 2008...no one is overly excited except probably his family and close friends

On the other hand...Hety is young and an exciting prospect....genuine fans have Hety's interest at heart...I want him to be successful...I want him to be another WI international star....I have seen too many youngsters come and go....hence my caution of throwing him to 'the wolves' too early

Kay 2017-04-19 12:27:58

Like fans do for Hety now, there was high hopes at the time for X-man too ... he just didn't live up to expectations

Nice thread ... but someone had to piss on it sad

I think because of the position that Hety bats at, he is more likely to start in the first test. We are trying to replace #2, #3 and #4 batsmen. Hety bats in all of those positions, I believe. My impression is that Singh is more of a #5, #6 batsman, so I am expecting him to be challenging Blackwood or Chase.

Narper 2017-04-19 12:47:20

In reply to Baje

You are correct...he is a top order batsman.

Bravo is missing from the #3 position.

Hety may very well get this spot.

It has to be Blackwood vs Singh

I will play Chase...he is the allrounder with the spin option.

Norm 2017-04-19 14:31:22

Recently, we were debating if Alzari Joseph was ready for Test cricket. Hetmyer's seems to be a similar case.

Not every batsman with outstanding performances in first class cricket would necessarily do well in Tests, as Devon Smith showed, more than once.

Ultimately, you can't learn to swim by practicing on dry land. You have to get into the water.

Xavier was probably the most attractive batsmen ever, for me. You just wanted to see him striking the ball, without caring much for the results. It was like watching a ballerina. The moves were what mattered, not the story. In Xavier's case, the story was almost always very lousy. Even he himself seemed not to care much about his own 'story'.

With Hetmyer it's different. He is about the story. He is the architect that executes like the ballerina. That's why WI cricket needs him.

The very best to young Hetmyer!

If yuh doan know ask somebody in Jamaica who does!!!!!!

Narper 2017-04-19 20:25:59

In reply to Dukes

WE ALL KNOW MARSHAL'S PROBLEM.....but he failed to live up to expectations years before his problem became public knowledge....like when he was sent out of Stanford camp in the $20 million T20 match

You are embarrassingly slow...and to think we have de same agewink

My lead post clearly states before the 1st test

Anyway.....almost immediately after U-19 world cup...Marshall played 2 tests and failed miserably !!!!

It took another THREEyears before he got another test match

HEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEH...in de age of Trump

In 1992 the young Ronnie Sarwan (16 yrs old I believe) made an attractive 92 against the touring Pakistanis in Bim. That may be a better comparison with young Hetmeyer.

The reports on Hety was how calm and mature he was at the U19WC. It was reported that the Indians tried to get in his head when he batted with snipes about bringing on spinners to bother him and he simply smiled and said spin is not a bother. Our lefties seem to be ar sea vs offspin so lets see if Hety masters that demon.

I am worried that the selectors don't force ripe Hetmyer and destroy the young man confidence. He has only played 18 first class matches.
