The West Indies Cricket Board has released the schedule for a short first class season, consisting of seven rounds. Following the format used in previous tournaments, all matches for each round will be held in the same region, presumably as a cost saving measure.
No final is listed in the release.
Fixtures are as follows:

This is an intruiging spectator friendly format. A spectator in one territory can possibly see all the players that he wants to see in one period just by attending different days at different venues.
Kudos to whoever thought up this schedule.

Hopefully, the Finals will be played in one of the countries that has a team in the Finals.

The other thing to consider is that the tournament is more susceptible to disruption by bad weather(given that all teams will be playing in pretty much the same place)...something that we can ill afford in a shortened tourney...
in the old format even if weather disrupts one match other matches could still be played...

all in one territory is a ridiculous idea. Two games will be played in front of almost nobody.
Kudos to whoever thought up this schedule...
well its no more stupid than most of the decisions made over the last decade.

Can somone tell me why is there no games at Sabina Park for the first round or even Trelawny that hosted WC warm up games? I thought the best venues are supposed to be used?

Are you saying that the WI fan is too stupid to appreciate or watch cricket if it doesn't involve a home team?

Look what this WI 4 day regional tournament has come to. Some matches will be played in front of less than 100 spectators.
I will always remember the Shell Shield days when matches were played in front of thousands of spectators. Sometimes matches were sold out before each day's start of play.

I am waiting to see the pictures of the carnival approach that WICB said that it is planning to bring to each of these rounds... Should be great to watch

Unno better wait. WIPA claim they never saw, approve, provide input to the schedule, so who knows whats in store. Though they should be happy since cricket playing at major venues. They can claim that as their own.

How many of the 20 or so pensioners, who typically comprise the audience for a FC match in Jamaica, do you think will be inclined to go & see another match which does not involve Jamaica?

True, but remind me, what was the turn out like throughout the rerst of the Caribean for matches not involving West Indies during WC 2007?
Jamaaica was merely cited as an example.
I imagine the stands were groaning under the weight of all those spectators who were just clamoring to see Ireland, Zimbabwe, etc?
The annual U19 Tournament should have give us a clue of how 'spectattor friendly" these arrangements are!
Remember the rationale for this new arrrangement was to
increase attendance, not to
divide the audience!

Tittie vs Barbados in Guyana you saying no one would go?
Look the under 19 runs under a similar structure and people turn out to watch those games don't they?

Appreciate - yes.
Watch live - except for a VERY few - nobody makes the effort to.
A few years ago, I watched a regional match with the home team (Ja)
weekend crowds - 200 to 300 (and I wasn't sure how many "officials" there were in that)
Weekday LESS than 100.
Compare that to when I was a youngster at Bourda - 10,000 was on the low side on a weekend.

Its good idea on several fronts.
First, with exception of flying into the Leewards they should be able to save significantly based on the volume of travelers or even a charter.
Additionally, each of the individual territories have the ability to demonstrate and practice hosting larger scale events.
Third, they should be able to generate a little buzz through saturation.
Fourth, the girls in those territories should be able to tax these guys and make good money in just a few days.
Win, win, win, win.

In reply to doosra Looks like Guyana have bout 3 and a half home matches.
Guyana vs Trinidad in Antigua is a home match
Guyana vs Jamaica in Barbados is annuda home match
Guyana vs CCC in Barbados is half and half

So instead of half your games at home and half away everybody travels for six and get one at home.
And this will cost less how?
And more people will watch why?
When Trinidad play Guyana at the Oval I wont get to see the other games because I cannot be in two places at once.So I will get one first class match this season,no test match and no 20/20 tournament or world cup games in Trinidad.
I am beginning to agree with Ramnarine that Isacc Hunte and Co really cant run anything.
Would it have been so hard to get sponsors for each team for a 20/20 tourney before the 20/20 World Cup?.And if they cant get sponsors shouldnt they get fired?.And if they have no money why give retainers to Tino Best and Floyd Reifer?

People don't think about the impact these things have on the local economy.
When we had the Superbowl here in Houston in 2003 I think, they had to bring in over 1,000 prostitutes and strippers - most from Louisiana but some from as far away as California, Vegas and and Miami.
Imagine 80 or so players plus coaches and stuff all with per diem to burn.
The impact could be in the thousands in just 4 or 5 days.

What's the prize money for the winning team?
Will WICB pay the player's a salary for the tournament, or will they only give US$25/day per diem?
How many WICB Board members will be flying around in First Class to the matches?

Interesting. When teams played home matches, someone in Jamaica, or Barbados, or wherever, could see many, many days of cricket without major travel expenses. Now they can see just four days.

2010-01-05 20:56:33
Also, how does this save money? T&T played just half their matches away from home prior to this. Not they play all but one away from home. That means more travel, and more expense.
Perhaps I'm failing to grasp something.

This is an experiment that should not happen.
The only constant is likely to be more games played on dead pitches.

I have very little interest in this competition.

If Cricket is what you are concerned about why commit that you are going to provide a carnival atmosphere. Just like the academy over the past 5 years... Just spread the lies and hope people like you run with that.

Ha ha ha. Good Joke... Ramdin is the best WI wicket Keeper in the given circumstances. Can we give him a reward?
