Where is Wavell Hinds? What did he do to these people?

bimbo 2010-01-18 15:29:14

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com

Good inclusions those two. Pullhard and Smith are good ODI players.

Cisco 2010-01-18 15:29:32

In reply to FanAttick i am not impress with the selection but again this is what the selectors have to work with. just recyling some crapp players. big grin

jacksprat 2010-01-18 15:30:25

In reply to Fantom

Didn't Wavell announce his retirement some 2 or so years ago?

armchair 2010-01-18 15:31:59

My starting 11

1 Gayle
2 Simmons
3 Bravo
4 Deo
5 Dowlin
6 Pollard
7 Smith
8 Ramdin
9 Miller
10 Rampaul / Sammy
11 Roach

Nemesis 2010-01-18 15:32:19

I utterly disgusted by this team.

Fantom 2010-01-18 15:34:16

In reply to jacksprat

I thought that move was so he could get his Kolpak contract. After all, he wasn't being picked at that time. I was not aware that he had no further interest in representing the WI.

Yes, he deserves to get a look in again.

Nemesis 2010-01-18 15:39:21

In reply to imusic

Any ODI team with Nash, Dowlin and Morton is a weak team...I am also not convinced of Deonarine capabilities as ODI batsman.

FanAttick 2010-01-18 15:40:28

In reply to Nemesis
Deo is one of the better ODI batsmen in the region bro..

who would you play in his place?

Fantom 2010-01-18 15:40:36

In reply to armchair

Clerly you were incorrect

I was not the only one. A lot of posters who know more about these things than I do had him in their "teams".

Dem picked a couple of test only batsman and two T20 players for ODI.

bimbo 2010-01-18 16:04:26

In reply to openning
Chris Gayle
Runako Morton
Lendl Simmons
Narsingh Deonarine
Travis Dowlin
Dwayne Bravo
Kieron Pollard
Dwayne Smith
Denesh Ramdin
Ravi Rampaul
Kemar Roach

This is the best 11 they can possible pick out of that 15. I think Captaincee will do well with this team.

DIEHARD 2010-01-18 16:05:21

Batting is batting, Jacques Kallis proved that, haven't both Dowlin and Deonarine played some terrific Stanford knocks?

I have no probs wid Deo and Dowlin or Morton, what are the alternatives? Findlay? X-Man?

I jus dont understand why d hell dem carrying Nash? Maybe him paying for half him ticket jus for another trip home shock

natty_forever 2010-01-18 16:09:58

In reply to DIEHARD... not that I would have picked him (Nash), however, he can still have a 80 strike rate and not score many boundaries ... no?

londoner 2010-01-18 16:13:05

In reply to NemesisWhat has clyde Butts gone done by picking Gavin Tongue what game was he watching in the tests when the Aussies took him apart.Darren Sammy again failed too.Nash is not a one day player he is more at home in tests.

Yadi 2010-01-18 16:53:14

hubert 2010-01-18 17:20:01

In reply to Cleg

The only positive from the squad is the restoration of VC to Bravo.
Maybe Nash is there because he can rotate the strike. His place could have gone to Fletcher or Bernard.Sammy should have stayed home to captain Windots now that Dwayne Smith is deservedly back.
i still believe Pascal to be a better bet than Tonge.

Dreama 2010-01-18 19:05:53

In reply to Cleg

Didn't Wavell announce his retirement some 2 or so years ago?

He announced it but was convinced not to go through with it, Hinds is an active voice against the WICB and more often than not he is over looked.

Cornfused 2010-01-18 19:48:23

I hope D Smith can be a fixture along with pollard on our odi and T20 teams

wink

goofballs 2010-01-18 22:58:04

Weakest team ever to leave the soil?

brians_da_best 2010-01-18 23:01:24

Good to see Dwayne Smith back. Hopefully he will do well here and cement his place in the team. Disappointing to see Ramdin still there, surely they could have tried another keeper (Baugh or Thomas) for the ODIs and see how they performed.

goofballs 2010-01-18 23:05:50

Meat of de batting
Morton
Dowlin
Nash
Simmons
Sammy
and a few cowlashers..... rolleyes cry

Gayle
Bravo
Narsingh
better bat all day long.

Roach and Bravo bowling all day?

TrinCanJam 2010-01-18 23:20:01

In reply to armchair
Rampaul for Sammy nd I okay with dis

matchstick 2010-01-19 00:08:50

Nash is a good pick fro this team...

With Shiv and Sars missing from the squad he is now probably the only player with the patience to hold together the innings if it falls apart.

Expect him in the final XI and batting as high as #4

mittheimp 2010-01-19 01:01:27

In reply to BajShotta

ODI
Gayle
Morton
Simmons
Deonarine
Bravo
Smith
Pollard
Ramdin
Rampaul
Miller
Roach

There are 9 potential bowlers in that team! Play an extra batter? Shame Sarwan and Chanderpaul injured as potentially it would be a superstar team. Bravo, Pollard and Smith should be all set to go after the ozzie 20/20. It also gives Deonarine another chance to experience top class cricket - will be interesting to see how good he really is!

mittheimp 2010-01-19 01:03:48

Will we ever see this team?

Gayle
Barath
simmonds
sarwan
Chanderpaul
Bravo
Pollard
Smith
Ramdin
Taylor
Roach

Bootsie 2010-01-19 02:31:35

4 men who are already in Oz on this squad, including 2 who were definitely not automatic picks. Cost-cutting measure?

natty_forever 2010-01-19 07:42:46

In reply to brians_da_best... the other keeper in NZ.

big grin

wcd 2010-01-19 08:50:48

Nash has to be an automatic pick in the ODI.W Hinds instead of Dowlin and ANYONE instead of Ramdhin.Pascal/Baker for Tonge

wcd 2010-01-19 08:59:02

This is probably the best fielding side in a long time, could save 20-30 runs per game.

SirGarny 2010-01-19 12:14:39

In reply to Nemesis

...I am also not convinced of Deonarine capabilities as ODI batsman

But somehow feel more comfortable with Pollard's skills in the 1day game? This is not 20-20 slog cricket. The top order might fail and he may have to negotiate overs 25-40 before the slog-fest starts in the last 10 overs. I'm not convinced Pollard has those type of consolidating skills.

He averages 11 runs in 1day competition and has 1 FC century to his credit in 20 matches with a 37 average....not confidence-inspiring at all.

To include Pollard and not Wavell Hinds is mystifying.

Hope I'm proven wrong for Windies sake.

dayne 2010-01-19 12:43:46

IMHO I think Baker should of been in the team, if Roach have to miss a game you will have a bowling attack full of gentle medium pacers.

carl0002 2010-01-19 12:48:00

Is a good ting Pollard sign all dem contracts aready.

Don't 4get Barath, Sarwan & Shiv injured! sad confused

BajShotta 2010-01-20 20:37:52

In reply to dayne
Baker is the same medium to sweet bowlers like the rest. After Roach, the only real fast bowlers in the Caribbean are Edwards, Taylor, Bennett, Pascal abd naybe Kevin Mcclean. Baker is the same pace as a Rampaul or a Tonge

armchair 2010-01-20 20:43:24

In reply to BajShotta
was McGrath a real fast bowler? If so then it is not only about pace.
