All I am praying for is that he don't go there and get injured, like Fidel and the predicament he find himself in.

2*2=4 but (2*1)+2 also equals four. wink

You really think Fidel in a "predicament" after playing 1 season in the IPL versus playing for the West Indies?

BWWWAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

So, was Fidel never injured before IPL? If you guys really are scared of injuries, you should provide enough incentive for them to stay back home and be in prime touch for test matches..

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com i hope all the young men and women in the caribbean take note, if you work hard the rewards can be very handsome, pollard made a 18 ball 50 and his entire life has changed, in the case of roach, he got pointing out three times in the past test series, his value increased 250k each time he dismissed pointing. i am extremely happy for these young men, all the west indies greats of years gone by like sobers , kanhai, the three w's,headley richards , holding, ambrose, walsh and many others were not that fortunate, they toiled very hard for little money. there is more talent i suspect in the caribbean, i think sulliman benn would be great in t20 cricket, he can bat and he is a very troublesome bowler to face.

a huge US$750,000
That is the auction bid – but is that what he get? It seem as if someone had the rights to him and sold it for that price

Spiderbuff 2010-01-19 11:27:18

Yeah that his salary during the period. It is not like football where they are buying players. The secret bids is what the BCCI get, the player gets the $750, 000. Is he being paid more than Gayle for the IPL now?

The articele says that's the maximum salary he could get. The difference goes to the league.

Good for Pollard for real. That's equivalent to about 3 1/2 years worth of test cricket if you get selected for every match and get all the other bonuses.

Spiderbuff 2010-01-19 11:30:18

I would have no problem if Pollard and Bravo represent their other teams for the Champions League. It will only be better for the West Indies to have as many players involved so Trinidad will get to expose some other players.

Especially as the batting line up already packed and Badree coulda make a difference in that final against NSW. He was the most economical 20/20 bowler and he get drop because Navin Stuart hit some big sixes in a cameo.

positiveg 2010-01-19 15:22:34

Congrats dude
Happy for you. Invest the money well.
Nice to see a young man going for the maximum bid. Now just go and play you game.

A nice little earner no doubt but Polly still got jipped by the salary cap rules.

In the open market he would have been the first WIan IPL millionaire.

yeah i agree with you ..I don't know the stats but i would like to believe with the money being paid to cricketers nowadays it's easier for a youngster to become rich playing cricket than playing other sports in the caribbean . Most of them play football and basketball ..the chances of making a west indies team must be greater than going to America/Europe to compete with the whole world..
I hope this acts as an incentive for our youngsters to return to cricket ..

In reply to birdseye i just read that the silent bid made by the mumbai indians for pollard was 2.75 million u.s dollars, out of that pollard gets the 750,000 dollars which is the leaague cap, the rest 2 million dollars goes to the i.p.l.that is the highest bid for any player ever, i think the fact that his current team south australia reaching the final saturday was also a contributing factor in pollard's favor.

93johnny 2010-01-20 09:08:27

In reply to Spiderbuff i believe gayle is making 800,000 us. i remember reading that somewhere maybe the cap was different last year, even if he is not making that i am pretty sure gayle is earning the maximum.

gayle not making the maximum this year. A gentleman's understanding is place caz he gotta 'pay back' for all the loot he got in the first year without playing due to injury

but he is the star of the ipl and come next year his earnings will go through the roof........no other player will be even close to him
