As the West Indies side arrives in Trinidad ahead of their series opener against Zimbabwe on Sunday, newly appointed head coach Ottis Gibson is taking a fresh look at fitness. In a report in the Jamaica Observer he says "The physical aspect of all sports determines whether an athlete will be successful or not. It is key as far as I'm concerned".
Apparently there are other keys too. In an article on CricInfo Gibson also says "the key is unity and strength and it always has been. During the 1980s and 1990s when West Indies were strong, I'm sure there were differences within the team, but the players pulled together and Clive Lloyd, way back in the 80s, was able to get them to come together for a common cause."

HEADLINE: Ottis Gibson in the media
In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com i wonder how long is it going to take for him to start getting frustrated by the west indies cricket board? the selectors are right behind, its like the blind leading the blind.
The major issues with this present group of players seem to be IMHO are that, they do not think the game throught, they practice and play against the highest level competition but they do not show any improvement when they return to the local tournaments, they lose their motivation easily when put in difficult situations and their level of pride is low.
Well I have been saying for years , that being Physically fit impinges on One's Mental Stamina . So in that regard Otis Gibson is absolutely correct .
However , the fact remains that OUR PLAYERS PLAY THE LEAST CRICKET OF ALL INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS WHOSE TEAMS RANK ABOVE OUR TEAM .
What will be important , is whether Otis Gibson calls for more Regional Matches , and if he does what will be the response of the Emperors .
In reply to POINT
u have also been calling for Peters for years
now deh drop he like hot paratha
As long as the Board remains in its present form, cricket will not improve on the account of the board alone. The players have to do as Clive LlOYD and those gallant and intelligent men did during the late 1970's through to 1991-and-especially during the 1980's
In reply to casibaIam glad what he said about fitness, and that he will help to choose the team.Iam glad he wont the team he did not like.

I am not surprised that any of these current fastbowlers get injured so easily. They are all small and have to work extra hard to develop any serious speed. None of them can sustain high speed (90+ mph) for any significant period, without risking injury.
WICB will piss off Otis in 6 months. He will quit in less than a year

You have displayed bad manners by deviating from from the post , but I shall only answer you this time . I dont like the idea of straying from the topic .
Evidently you havent seen the close of play score , by Guyana , the fact that the 3 wickets that fell were victims of Shillingford , indicates that the Pacers who are playing , havent done much so far .
Peters possess the ability to move the ball both ways , and he is a lefthander , there arent many left handed pacers in the Region , so my take is that he would present a different look to batsmen . I see that Sarwan is at 80* .
In reply to POINT so can pedro collins. peters bowls at 79 mph
there are 2 reasons, at least, why players do not give a damn, and they most certainly do not give a danm.
1) firstly, slackness, laziness, pot gut, drunkeness on the field, prurience, pussy hunting, fraility, are attritutable to a great many players
AND HAS TO BE CONDONED,BECAUSE THE TEAM WOULD BE BERIFT OF PLAYERS
2) WICB makes it abuntantly clear that cricketers are labourers and they, wicb, are the bushas.
why should the players give a danm, other than to secure a pick, when their employer thinks that the players' job is to enrich the bushas?
enter otis gibson who will.....????

Another thing I notice is that there is very little Match practice for the fast bowlers....
Since the wickets are slow, Fastbowlers are just used to take the shine away from the ball so that the spinners can start bowling.
All Fast Bowlers including Roach have been bowling 5-6 Overs in an innings in FC cricket untill they get selected based on promise rather than performance. Suddenly at International level they are expected to bowl 15-20 overs a day which they are not used to and soon they are tired or break down.
Our FC cricket dosent prepare anyone for International cricket.
Otis gibson okay but give the team a batting coach all other test playing sides have one.
In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com he started off badly, west indies playing at home, played only one spinner compared to the visiting which used 5 spinners . i guess they knew something about the queens park oval pitch that apparently the w.i selectors and coach didnt know. rampaul. is a waste of time giving up 22 runs in his last over bowling wides and a few no balls in the same over, that might be it for him. the west indies cricket board and its selectors need to start using their brains and doing their home work, you mean to say they didnt know the oval is a spinners wicket? thats stupidity. if they had used nikita miller instead of rampaul it could have made the world of difference. sulliman benn opened the bowling and got 4 wickets for 6 runs so ramdhin knew the wicket would turn , but no other spinners on the team to back up benn.
In reply to 93johnny
Otis getting blamed already.
In reply to bimbo now they dropped darren bravo which i agree with, but they retained rampaul, very puzzling , no i dont blame otis for everything but if he is part of the selection process then he must take some blame for this, i recall rampaul did this in australia as well so how many chances does he get?
