Should start next week and run till the world cup.
All the players on central contracts should be mandated to attend, that is why you have central contracts. The West Indies Cricket Board have to adopt a professional sports team model. It does not matter how good you are you still have to be continually coached. That is why proven winners who are multi-millionaires have coaches to continually work on their basics, their techniques and their general skills. Take a look at Manchester United or Dallas Cowboys or Boston Celtics. Why do West Indians feel that the senior team cricketers will master their art at the junior level. The camps need to have a main batting coach with several assistants, the same for bowling. This must be a resourceful, day to day continuous effort utilizing the vast knowledge pool of our past players. Players get central contracts and you have a contracted coach and staff, they should be together working nine months out of the year.

Gibson Camp
In reply to methodic
overtraining is just as bad as under-training...
yuh cant move from one extreme to the other on the drop of a hat..
Yuh more likely to cause injuries.....
If Gibson wants to make an impact he should have a medium to long term plan...
In reply to methodic
What you have said has been repeated many times. The WICB claims they don't have the money.
In reply to FanAttick
Should Gibson brainwash dem rass with cricket??
We already have 1 warrior, we could do with 15 more.
In reply to FanAttick
Bro this is serious business. West Indians outside of the track and field athletes do not know what it takes to be a professional sportsman in the year 2010. The physical training, the mental readiness and the psychological warfare are all areas West Indians have fallen back in. If a footballer player from Jamaica or Trinidad is signed by an English Club is he given time to adjust? or does he adjust by training everyday. With central contracts the players are mandated to the board just like a club. This is a full time occupation.

They sitting on a half a billion dollar empire and saying they ain't have no money. They should say they need help building the empire and using the money they have wisely. They gave King a million dollar contract and he is only mandated to show up two weeks before a tour. Madness!!!!
personally i think the guys wud've been better of playing cricket rather than in a camp. Players shud've been allowed to represent their club teams and such, its better to have match form than nets form...
a player like ramdin shud be with his club gettin battin practice in actual situations of pressure! ramdin battin for a month in the nets wont change his form!!!
just my opinion though

Nothing better than real cricket...Whatever happen to that idea that was tried where all WI players will play their cricket in different island every year (Split among different clubs)...That would have increased the competition and improve our players.
Afterall WICB is paying them areddy
In reply to methodic Been saying the same thing on for a few years now. These fellas are not prepared to be professionals. The really hard work ethic is really lacking. A true professional does not allow his body to get all out of shape like these guys do. Harder trainig will help to build up there mental toughness. Something that have been lacking now for years. These guys got here on natural skill but to really become dominant players they have to put in the hard work preparing their bodies for the stress of the international game.
The days of getting it done on skill alone is passed. The Aussies and Saffies have taken the game to another level and our players cannot see that they are not tough enough mentally to hang with the top PRO TEAMS.
They should not be with their clubs now. You have to get the best players togather and practice with that group. Local players are local players they will not be able to give you the real test you will need.
In reply to methodic
the guys who are playing ipl should remain there,
they deserve that and there is no better leadup than that
In reply to WestDem
Gibson should make them all sit down and watch the WI last 15 years of performance at least 3 times.
In reply to anandgb
cruel and unusal punishment.
In reply to FanAttick
Did the selected team overtrain for the Stanford 20 20 for 20 match?
In reply to bird
I agree with that point, that the players contracted with the IPL teams should play in the IPl but they should have ongoing communications with their West Indies coaches. The coaches should break down each of their performances and discuss with them. When they come back to the West Indies they know exactly what areas they have to concentrate on.
In reply to westindies4eva
A camp is necessary for fitness, mental preparation and team chemistry. I do agree when you have an extended plan for a contracted group then competitive matches in leagues should be involved to help develop and monitor the players improvement. This is not supposed to be an action outside of the plans of West Indies cricket, coaches can travel with players and video tapes of all innings and sessions should be made and filed to be constantly used for reference.

Check the annual regime of Lance Armstrong, Coby Bryant, Lebron James, the Williams sisters, Federer, Peyton Manning and the Jamaican Sprinters and then tell me if you still think this is cruel and unusual punishment. If you want world class players you must demand world class preparation.

these guys don't think before they talk!

First , let me welcome you to this MB . I wholeheartedly agree with what you have stated . However there are , as you will soon find out , many who defend the Ineptness , Incompetence , and Utter Stupidity of the WICB .
ONE WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT THE WICB LEARNT SOMETHING FROM STANFORD'S 20 MILLION DOLLARS CAMP . UNFORTUNATELY IT DIDNT .
YES , I am fully aware that money is necessary , BUT I HAVENT HEARD FROM ANY PERSON THAT THE WICB HAS BE BANNED FROM SOLICITING SPONSORS .
In fact , some years ago , the WICB was bragging about having repaid a loan of 15 million dollars that it had borrowed . I dont see what is preventing the WICB from borrowing money from that same Source or Sources .
IT SEEMS THAT THE WICB SEEMS OBLIVIOUS OF THE FACT THAT IF OUR TEAM KEEPS LOSING , IT WOULD BE RELEGATED TO PLAYING AGAINST IRELAND , HOLLAND , THE USA ETC . WHEN THAT HAPPENS , ITS FINANCIAL STATUS IS GOING TO BE DEEPLY AFFECTED .
I have always used the analogy that OUR PLAYERS , COLLECTIVELY ARE A PRODUCT NOW IF THAT PRODUCT , UNDER THE GOVERNANCE OF THE WICB ISNT IMPROVED , IT IS VERY OBVIOUS THAT ABSOLUTELY FEW PEOPLE OR COUNTRIES WILL BE WILLING TO SEE THAT PRODUCT .
In essence , IF THE WICB BLUNTLY REFUSES , TO
SEND YOUNG PROMISING PLAYERS TO ACADEMIES ; HAVE
OUR PART TIME PLAYERS , WHO PLAY THE LEAST
CRICKET IN THE INTERNATIONAL ARENA , PLAYING
MORE CRICKET IN THE 3 VERSIONS OF THE GAME AT
THE REGIONAL LEVEL , WHICH IS THE HIGHEST FORM
OF CRICKET IN THE REGION ; AND ALSO HAVE PROPER
CAMPS ; AND MORE WARMUP MATCHES . OUR PLAYERS
ARENT GOING TO BE COMPETITIVE TO CLIMB UP THE
RANKS OF THE TOP 10 INTERNATIONAL CRICKET TEAMS .
IT IS THAT SIMPLE .
In reply to methodic
I am in your corner bro.
POINT is too no doubt.
I am just so tired of the start and stop nonsense when it comes to fitness.
Gayle is on record sayin that Gibsons training has been beneficial re training.
We all know that these fellas need it...and yes...the levels of training to be #1 aint no joke.
my fear at this juncture is that we may be so far out with some of them that I have more faith in the youngsters from Barath down to adhere and adapt than the older lads.
i have become cynical...as much as we all want the same thing.
In reply to powen001
Nothing wrong with the fitness ting. Matter of fact, an emphasis on fitness is essential in professional sport today.
That said....when BK did it....many peeps here derided him.
Ah well.
In reply to imusic
cause de Prof got a band o merrymen and partially cause the challenges from Lara were not very well kept secrets.
people drew lines in the sand to support LAra.
fortunately King was a genuine fraud...even if a few players enjoyed his tenure...re fitness.
In reply to imusic The WI are good for maybe 2 to 3 days of a test. Then they begin to fall apart piece by piece. Because they are not physically fit. They may look it (Gayle, Ramdin) but they are not really trained to go the distance of 5 days at the level of play that is required. Most of the injuries occur for the same reason. If your bodies aren't fit for the grind it will make injuries more frequent.
At this level Sarwan and Rampaul are injuries waiting to happen. On the local level you can maybe get away with this but when you have to compete with players who take their craft seriously you will have to exert much more strain on the body and injuries will occur if you are not fit enough.
Methodic is totally correct.
In reply to powen001
Yes and then let them watch how Oz plays
In reply to seaegg99
true...seen it too many times..
we could be in winning positions...but for the lack of fitness...we either cant finish em off of stick it out enough.
truth is..we are playin very few tests recently..thats why I welcome the 4 days stuff with Zimbabwe.
In reply to powen001 You mean they are good for 2 out of 3 sessions of a days play much less 2 or 3 days.
In reply to RedDuppy
I have seen that too...but we have seen them get into positions after day 2 and then yuh wonder....WHO kidnapped the fellas?
they play sluggish...seem to HOPE for things to happen rather than sustain pressure.
I think that fitness playin a role there in a big way.
If the windies need 2 months of camp to prepare for a freaken 20/20 worldcup, I dear say we running out of time to prepare for the next test and ODI series. Phew!!
another PE teacher?
In reply to methodic
You're comparing the WICB with Man U, Dallas and Boston? Even during our period of dominance, there still was no comparison. WICB is a bunch of heediots!
I agree that the best of us still need remedial coaching.
I AM SURPRISED THAT NO ONE HAS SEEN FIT TO COMMENT ON TWO VERY GLARING FACTS .
FIRST THE WICB THIS YEAR HAS CUT BACK ON THE REGIONAL 4 DAY MATCHES , THIS SURELY AINT HELPING OUR PLAYERS TO BE PHYSICALLY & MENTALLY FIT .
SECONDLY , ALL TEAMS RANKED ABOVE OUR TEAM HAVE BATTING
; BOWLING & FIELDING COACHES ; THE WICB BLUMTLY REFUSES TO GIVE OUR TEAM THESE COACHES .
In reply to carl0002
When you dont have a tournament in the format and are going to select playes based on your Whims and fancies rather than the exhibitted performance you need time to even know what the 15 would be able to do.
In reply to anandgb
Punishment indeed
In reply to Pacy
The salient point is this : OF ALL INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS PLAYING CRICKET , OUR PLAYERS PLAY THE LEAST CRICKET .
IT IS THEREFORE IMPERATIVE , THAT OUR PLAYERS PLAY MORE CRICKET , HAVE PROPER CAMPS ETC . SO THAT THEIR PHYSICAL & MENTAL STAMINA IS GOOD .
IN MY OPINION IT IS THE LACK OF PROPER PHYSICAL & MENTAL STAMINA THAT IS MAKING OUR PLAYERS NOT AS COMPETITIVE AS PLAYERS FROM OTHER INTERNATIONAL TEAMS RANKED ABOVE OUR TEAM .
