Collins says no to Windies selection

Team Selection Left-arm fast bowler Pedro Collins has withdrawn from the West Indies squad for the home series against Sri Lanka because of what he calls "prior contractual commitments."

Collins, picked in the West Indies squad for the first Test against Sri Lanka in Guyana, inked a two-year Kolpak deal with Surrey last October.
The 31-year-old Barbadian, who played in 32 Tests and 30 ODIs for the West Indies, cannot keep his Kolpak deal and represent the Caribbean side unless he becomes an overseas player for Surrey.

Other West Indian players with Kolpak deals include Wavell Hinds and Jermaine Lawson.

The WICB confirmed receipt of Collins withdrawal and said a decision has not yet been made on a replacement.  Sources say it is likely a replacement won't be named and the team will go into the first Test with the remaining 14 players.

Full text of letter sent to WICB by Pedro Collins:
As you are aware, I have been selected in the 15 man squad to represent the West Indies cricket team for the 1st test match against the visiting Sri Lankan team in Guyana. I would like to thank you for considering me once again to represent the West Indies cricket team, something which I have always done with pride, honour and dignity.

Unfortunately, due to prior contractual commitments I have no alternative but to decline your kind invitation at this time.  

I would like to take the opportunity to wish my colleagues best of luck for the upcoming series as I have every confidence they would make us all proud.
