DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – Marlon Samuels’s 24th Test half-century underpinned West Indies’ fightback against Pakistan on the third day of the historic day/night first Test here Saturday.

The 35-year-old right-hander was unbeaten on exactly 50 as West Indies, resuming the day on 69 for one, reached 138 for two at the first interval at the Dubai International Stadium, in reply to Pakistan’s massive 579 for three declared.

Samuels was partnered at the break by left-hander Darren Bravo who was unbeaten on 30, the pair having so far put on 69 for the third wicket.

They were brought together in the second over of the day when leg-spinner Yasir Shah got one to drift past the Kraigg Brathwaite’s defensive prod and hit off-stump, with no runs added to the overnight score.
