The West Indies selectors have spoken: Chris Gayle is the man to captain the team for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.

According to information reaching CaribbeanCricket.com, the Jamaican left-hander has won the captaincy nomination from Gordon Greenidge's three-man selection panel, a decision that effectively ends the conversation over whether Ramnaresh Sarwan gets the job on his return from injury.

The WICB directors are to meet to ratify the nomination before a formal announcement is made.

Gayle assumed the captaincy after a shoulder injury aborted Sarwan's tour of England last year and has been credited for his leadership skills by everyone associated with the team.

Sarwan has publicly stated that he is comfortable playing in the side under Gayle.

It is likely Sarwan will be named vice-captain for the home series.
