BREAKING NEWS:
Florida's big dreams of hosting World Cup cricket matches went up in smoke when the ICC announced the eight venues for the 2007 tournament.
The absence of the U.S. from the list of approved venues came as a big surprise, as was the choice of St Kitts (Warner Park) ahead of the more established Arnos Vale facility in St Vincent. Jamaica's secondary Trelawny bid was also unsuccessful.
1. Antigua (a new venue with a capacity of 20,000)
2. Barbados (Upgrade of Kensington Oval)
3. Grenada (Major upgrade of Queen's Park to increase capacity to
20,000)
4. Guyana (A new stadium with a capacity of 20,000)
5. Jamaica (Upgraded Sabina Park to increase capacity to 30,000)
6. St Kitts (Major renovations to Warner Park to increase capacity
to 13,000)
7. St Lucia (Upgrade of Beausejoir to increase capacity to 20,000)
8. Trinidad & Tobago (Minor renovations to Queen's Park
Oval).
Bermuda's National Sports Centre has been selected as a back-up venue to host matches in cases of emergencies. Bermuda will also host warm-up games.
There will be 16 teams, playing 51 matches in the competition.
