Samuels in 30-Man ICC Trophy Squad

The West Indies selectors offered a glimpse into their thought-process with the release of a largely predictable 30-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in September.

The squad, which will be reduced to 14 on August 10, sees the return of Marlon Samuels, Wavell Hinds, Daren Ganga, Merv Dillon, Corey Collymore and Ryan Hurley alongside the full team that just reached the finals for the NatWest triangular series.

Dwight Washington, Kurt Wilkinson and Jason Bennett were also included in the squad, which was described by acting chairman of selectors Joey Carew as "purely academic."

"[The squad] gives an indication of who we have in mind to represent us in this important One-Day tournament as we keep our focus on the Cricket World Cup 2007," Carew explained.

Some names missing from the squad include fast bowlers Daren Powell and Jerome Taylor; wicket-keeper Dinesh Ramdin, spinner Dave Mohammed and middle-order batsman Narsingh Deonarine.
