Lara Back; Shiv Remains Captain
Tue, Apr 5, '05
Shivnarine Chanderpaul will remain captain for the remainder of the home series against South Africa.
Immediately after the end of the drawn first Test in Guyana, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) quelled any speculation about the future leadership of the team, naming Chanderpaul captain even with the return of Brian Lara for the second Test in Lara's native Trinidad & Tobago. Vice-captain Courtney Browne also retained that post.
Chanderpaul, who hit a double century in Guyana, proved a capable captain in a match dominated by the West Indies.
The WICB also announced the return of Ramnaresh Sarwan, Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo to the side, effectively ending the eligibility quarrel that divided fans around the Caribbean and plunged West Indies cricket into a month-long crisis.
Dropped from the first Test squad were Daren Ganga, Devon Smith, Donovan Pagon and Narsingh Deonarine.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul (captain)
Courtney Browne (vice captain)
Chris Gayle
