Last July, as part of the Scotiabank West Indian Jubilee, the selection of the five greatest West Indies cricketers over the 75-year history of our cricket triggered lots of debates. Why not a single fast bowler? Why didn't Malcolm Marshall make it?

The debates will go on forever and ever and, to help us sift through the nominees and better understand the rich history of West Indies cricket, along comes this gem of a collector's item from Wisden and Miller Publishing Company Ltd.

With a foreward by Sir Vivian Richards, Wisden's Caribbean Cricket offers a heartwarming walk down memory lane. It is 144 pages of the best of times, including indepth profiles and career statistics of the 30 cricketers who made the Jubilee shortlist.

From the early greats such as Headley and Constantine, through to Lara?s world Test record 400 not out in 2004, the book offers a rediscovery of the greatest of the greats in West Indies cricket. West Indian cricket heroes such as Walcott, Worrell and Weekes; Ramadhin and Valentine; Kanhai, Lloyd, Gibbs, Richards, Dujon, Greenidge and Haynes; the great fast bowlers, Hall and Griffith, Holding, Garner, Roberts, Marshall, Ambrose and Walsh are all profiled.

Of course, the the greatest of them all, Sir Garry Sobers, takes pride of place.

Wisden's Caribbean Cricket includes never-before-seen photos of the 1928 Test team, including a photo autographed by every player on that historic team.

The book is broken into sections highlighting the Beginnings of West Indies Test cricket (1928-1948); the Unification under Sir Frank Worrell (1947-963); The Age of Sobers (1963-1975); World Domination (1976-1995); and Record Breakers (1996-2004).

From the Record Breakers section, you can expect to see spectacular photos of Brian Lara's 400 not out and a terrific image of Courtney Walsh capturing his 435th Test wicket.

Miller Publishing Company, the Barbados-based company that also published the 'Caught in Action' book by Gordon Brooks, was approached by Wisden to put together this latest title, which is also a significant achievement.

The major significance is Wisden does not publish any books outside of the U.K., and they could have chosen any other publisher in the world, but because of the quality of 'Caught In Action', Wisden picked Miller Publishing out of Barbados.
