(In The Papers Today: Fazeer Mohammed reports on the West
Indies v Queensland tour match; Ambassador Viv and a tribute to
Courtney Browne...)
In a wrap-up of the West Indies tour match against the Queensland Bulls, Fazeer Mohammed declares that Shivnarine Chanderpaul's men have earned respect Down Under by pushing the State side to the limit over the course of four days.
Mohammed, who is on the scene in Brisbane, writes that the visitors may be confident ahead of the first Test match but there is cause for alarm as Wavell Hinds will definitely miss the outing due to a broken finger and Brian Lara, Daren Powell and Ramnaresh Sarwan are also on the injured list.

The Kaiteur News reports on Guyana?s 2005 Carib Beer Cup inter-county four day tournament with news that Assad Fudadin smashed a double century for Berbice against Essequibo over the weekend.
Fudadin joins Krishna Arjune as the second batsman to make a double century in this year?s tournament. On both occasions, Essequibo was the team with the slaughtered bowling attack.

Ezra Stuart gets philosophical, writing for the Barbados Nation, that people will perish where there is no vision. At the local level, Stuart calls for improvement to grounds in Barbados saying it is no wonder Tony Howard and co. are marvelling at the facilities available in Australia.
He also pays tribute to Courtney Browne, saying redemption for his post-KFC Cup comments comes with his resignation and positive comments about future Barbados players and praising him for leaving on his own terms.
Tony Cozier carries a message to Browne from West Indies team manager Tony Howard who described the former captain as a man who commanded the respect of his team.
Howard said: "The fact that Barbados won the Carib Beer tournament in two successive seasons under him during which they didn't lose a match is testament to his ability to work as a group."

Viv Richards will serve as ambassador for Antigua & Barbuda during the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, reports the Trinidad Express.
Match results from Antigua's Independence Cricket Fest 20/20 games are on WindiesCricket.com.

On the whole, legendary status was no match for youth as the Lashings XI beat the Combined West Indies Legends side, thanks largely to 121 from former West Indies opener Stuart Williams.
Barbados rolled over an Antigua & Barbuda Sports Tourism Board side by 154 runs, and Antigua & Barbuda made light work of their Masters compatriots, beating the seniors? team by 191.

Cricket makes the New York Times, with a headline "You win some, you lose some (for Lara it's a lot)" - testimony to Brian Lara's world record.
No, not the 400 not out, the *other* world record. The one he carries presumably with a little less pride and which bestows upon him the honour of being the most defeated Test player in the history of the game.

In a blast from the past, Ricky Skerritt has popped up in West Indies cricket news once again. This time however, he is the Hon. Richard O. Skerritt.
The Travel Daily News drops his name in an article about St Kitts & Nevis' duties as World Cup 2007 hosts. Skerritt is a Minister of State in the St Kitts & Nevis Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Culture.
