The West Indies cricket team is due back in the Caribbean on Sunday but head coach Bennett King won't be making the trip.

The coach will remain in Australia to spend the holidays with his extended family, team spokesman Imran Khan said. He is due back in Caribbean "very early in January" in time for the recommencement of the Carib Beer Series.

Khan said fast bowler Corey Collymore, who underwent successful surgery to remove a bone spur in his right patellar (knee) tendon, will arrive in Barbados later in the week.

"I am very happy that I underwent the operation now because it is the best option for my future," Collymore said from Melbourne where he is spending a few days in recovery.

"I am even more happy that the operation went as planned and it turned out successfully," Collymore said.

"It will be sometime before I get back into action but I will be doing all that is necessary to ensure that I return to playing cricket as soon as I can," Collymore added.
