Faz Calls For Wavell To Lead

Writer and commentator Fazeer Mohammed has called for Wavell Hinds to take the struggling Shivnarine Chanderpaul's place at the helm. In an article published on Cricinfo, Mohammed lays out his case for the Jamaican captain to take over, citing his captaincy experience, his ability to represent the side off the field, and his demonstrated willingness to enforce discipline.
Despite the obvious questions over Hinds' ability to hold down a spot as a player, Fazeer suggests that Wavell is the best of the available options. He also suggests that not least among Hinds' qualifications is his visible role in WIPA, which he sees as positive factor in smoothing over relations between players and management.

The beleagured West Indies Cricket Board is drawing fire from all quarters. While Viv Richards' fiery November interview with The Voice is being re-reported around the region, Tony Becca tore a strip off the board yesterday in an editorial that roundly criticised the "incompetent" board for its postponement of two matches of this year's watery Carib Beer competition. Becca states that it shows a lack of respect for the regional boards and the clubs, who need to juggle their season around the tournament.

The Jamaica Observer is reporting that the Barbadian World Cup body is attempting to hire another 64 'specialists' for the rebuilding of Kensington Oval, a month after 14 Indians construction workers were deported. The reconstruction of the landmark ground is running badly behind schedule, and there are fears that the project will not be completed in time without the foreign workers.

While the Carib Beer Cup stalls, the women's U-23 tournament rolls on with Trinidad and Tobago beating St Vincent and the Grenadines by a 105 run margin in their limited overs match. Stacy Ann King carried her bat for T&T, scoring with 42 of the 173 total, and then the Vincentians were held down to a mere 68 as Jade Chadee took 5 for 21. Elsewhere, Barbados defeated the Development XI by 76 runs and Jamaica dismissed Guyana for 56 runs but barely scraped a one wicket win when they scored 57 with two balls to spare.
