Bennett King

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has appointed a four-man team of former cricketers to undertake an evaluation of the performance of Bennett King's coaching staff.

The evaluation team will be headed by Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) chief Jackie Hendriks and will include Deryck Murray, Desmond Haynes and Enoch Lewis.

The terms of reference of the committee are:

1. To review the conditions of employment which relate to the imported coaching staff and to evaluate the results achieved to date.

2. Advise whether in the view of the Committee the results justified the investment.

3. To report by Wednesday, February 15, 2006.

The appointment of the committee stems from a complaint by Guyana Cricket Board that the US$1 million a year investment in the all-Australian coaching staff is not a justified expense.

Bennett King has a guaranteed three-year contract that pays in the vicinity of US$25,000 a month. His support staff -- assistant coach David Moore, physio Stephen Partridge and strength and conditioning coach Bryce Cavanagh are only contracted from series to series.

The team unit also includes Barbadian Tony Howard, who serves as team manager and the full expenses for that unit is in excess of US$1 million a year. That expense, the GCB contends, isn't paying dividends at a time when the board is effectively broke and struggling to meet other required expenses.
