Former West Indies opener Wavell Hinds is set to retire from regional and international cricket.
Hinds, a 31-year-old left-hander who played in 45 Tests between 2000 and 2005, has already told his Jamaica teammates of the decision in an emotional meeting after the recent Stanford 20/20 final, according to a Radio Jamaica report.
The opening batsman, who was dropped from the Jamaica side for the upcoming Carib Cup game against Trinidad & Tobago, has reportedly inked a deal to play in the private Indian Cricket League (ICL).
Last October,
Hinds signed a one-year deal with Derbyshire as a Kolpak player.
In 45 Tests for the West Indies, Hinds scored 2608 runs at 33.01 with a top-score of 213. He also appeared in 114 One Day Internationals.
Hinds, who captained Jamaica and was touted by many as a possible long-term West Indies skipper, is a central figure in the West Indies Players' Association, where he serves as vice president.
Last August, he was banned by the Jamaica Cricket Association for alleged verbal abuse of umpires.
