Former West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh and Red Stripe
Bowl-winning Barbadian players Floyd Reifer, Philo Wallace, and Ian
Bradshaw have been invited to appear at the 2002 Milo/Melbourne
cricket festival later this month in Jamaica.
Walsh and young West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels will be opposing
captains for the September 29 match that has a Jamaica side facing
a Melbourne Invitational XI at the club?s ground.
Melbourne president Tony Becca says this year's event honours
successes of the national team in recent years - Busta
International Shield champions in 2001 and the Busta Cup this year.
Melbourne-product Walsh, who holds the world record for wickets in
Test cricket at 519, will lead the Melbourne XI that includes
Reifer, the Red Stripe Bowl 'Final Four' MVP, Wallace, Bradshaw,
and other regional stars -- Devon Smith of Grenada, Guyana's Colin
Stuart, and teenager Ravi Rampaul of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Jamaica side is expected to include Samuels, Gareth Breese,
Darren Powell and Jermaine Lawson just ahead of their departure for
West Indies duties in India, and other players with West Indies
experience Leon Garrick, Ricardo Powell, and Robert Samuels.
