India/West Indies Betting Racket Busted

Police in New Delhi claimed to have busted a big betting racket on the first cricket match of the Exide Test Series between India and West Indies and four persons have been arrested.

Acting on a tip off, police raided a house in the Govindpura area of East Delhi today and seized two briefcase recorders containing mobile phones, chargers and walkman, police said in New Delhi.

They also seized two calculators, one pager and four registers from their possession. Explaining the modus operandi, police said orders made through mobile phones were recorder by the walkman.

The pager used to provide them with the trends of the match, police said adding the accused normally paid Rs 1000 to the mail operator for providing a specific information.

However, no money transaction was made on the day of the match fearing police action, they said.

The arrested have been identified as Ramesh Chand Grover, Tarun Kumar, Anil Kumar and Mukesh Kumar, all residents of Delhi. So far the accused had registered entries of Rs 24 lakh, police added.
