Masud To Lead Bangladesh against Windies
Fri, Nov 22, '02
Bangladesh cricket selectors have retained wicketkeeper Khaled
Masud as captain and recalled former captain Naimur Rahman the
1-man squad for the upcoming one-day series against the West
Indies.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a team that includes a
combination of young and veteran players, aiming to score more
runs. "We are putting emphasis on batting to get a higher run
score," chief selector Aliul Islam said.
Off-spinner Naimur Rahman who had been left off the one-day
squad during the past year, was recalled to combat the five
left-handed batsmen in the West Indies squad, Islam said.
The team also includes three young, promising players who were
recently injured in a road accident, but have recovered, Islam
said. Alok Kapali, Tapash Baisya and Tushar Imran were injured Nov
7 when their motorised rickshaw overturned on a busy road in the
capital, Dhaka.
The West Indies team, which arrives in Bangladesh on Nov 25, will
play three one-day internationals and two Test matches from Nov
29-Dec 20. The tour begins with a three-match limited-overs series
on Nov 29 in the southeastern city of Chittagong. Two other
one-dayers will be played Dec 2-3 in Dhaka.
The first Test match is scheduled in Dhaka from Dec 8-12, while the
second and final test is in Chittagong from Dec 16-20.
Bangladesh's Test squad will be announced later and is likely to
include most of the one-day players, Islam said.
