Dillon Out, Cuffy Back for Bangladesh
Mon, Nov 25, '02
Pace spearhead Merv Dillon has suffered a tear to his right
glute and will not make the trip to Bangladesh, the West Indies
Cricket Board (WICB) announced Monday. Cameron Cuffy, who was
dropped from the original tour party, will replace him.
Dillon tore the right glute during the fourth ODI against India at
Ahmedabad and was ruled unfit. He will return to the Caribbean
immediately to receive treatment, the board said.
The WICB said an MRI scan revealed that scar tissue from a
similar injury suffered during the home series earlier this year
had torn and it was decided to let him come home for sustained and
concentrated rehabilitation of the injury..
Cuffy, himself coming off an injury, had a poor tour of India but
Dillon's injury gives him a chance at redemption. Dillon becomes
the third player to miss the Bangladesh tour through injury.
Captain Carl Hooperwill is due to undergo knee surgery knee in
Australia in the coming weeks and all-rounder Ryan Hinds is back in
the Caribbean nursing torn ligaments in his right knee.
