WICB Official Denies BBC Quotes

Acting CEO of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Roger Brathwaite, and West Indies opening?batsman Wavell Hinds have both denied making any statements on the issue of England playing in Zimbabwe during the 2003 World Cup.

A statement from the WICB quoted Brathwaite as saying the direct quotation featured on the BBC Sport web page (See link) on January 9 did not come from him and he was very upset that this error could have been made by such a reputable news organization.

"I have not made or given a statement to the BBC, any journalist nor indeed anyone else on this matter," Brathwaite said, according to the WICB. ?

The BBC report quoted Brathwaite, Hinds and West Indies vice-captain Ridley Jacobs as supporting England's participation in the World Cup matches in Zimbabwe.

The board statement said Jamaican opener Wavell Hinds also denied making the statement in support of England's participation that was quoted on the BBC Sport web-page.

It said Jacobs could not be reached for confirmation of the quotes.
