Kuk is just NOT an ODI Player...
In reply to Samwells
That's old news yet the WICB persists with him. Likely will be given one more chance in the 3rd ODI. If he fails again he may not be in the Test squad.
In reply to Samwells
I think a guy whose handle is "Samwells" needs to be very, very careful categorizing players....
In reply to Arawak
ok..'Arawak'...your ideas are extinct as the arawaks...good choice of name
In reply to Samwells
Perhaps not, but he certainly shouldn't be opening when there are ACTUAL openers in the team slotted in the spot HE should be.
In reply to Samwells
I am not extinct - Pt II
Predictable. Lazy shot and clean bowled.
But you were looking real good for a little while....
In reply to Samwells
This is not the issue. The Selectors must take the licks for this.
Kirk was not a part of the CPL so has not been playing competitive cricket for weeks. Why select him and worse yet put him to open, when the top opener and run scorer in the just concluded CPL is put to bat at #5.
Make no logical sense.
Why can't people accept that Kuk shouldn't be there, there are at least 3 batsmen that should be in front of him,Walton,Fletcher or Lewis...in that order.
In reply to granite
Aside from being rusty, why shouldn't be in the team?
In reply to Samwells
You have to look for the best fifteen for the WC, Kirk should is not the guy to open.
Simmons, Smith and other T20 stars, should perform during the regional fifty over competition, before being selected for the West Indies.
Horses are for courses
In the meantime.
The other opener flies under the radar despite averaging less than 20 over the last two years.
In reply to nissan
No man Powell was dropped and Charles before him.
After the 3rd match on Monday, it looks like Kirk will not be playing his next ODI until after the World Cup next year.
i belie kuk is indeed a one day player
ONE DAY he will come good
In reply to Samwells
The other day you said he flat out could not bat.

In reply to Samwells
The thread title should read "Kuk is not an opener"
They do him a disservice by batting him out of position
In reply to imusiche bats at #3, if you are a #3, you could be a #1 or 2
In reply to tc1
By that token, anyone can bat anywhere. That's not the point.
Opening the batting is a specialist position. Kuk is NOT a specialist opener
In reply to imusic... so you rooting for Kraigg I see.
In reply to tc1 You could see Lil B opening the batting? Kuk allow himself to get fug up by opening especially when he has not played competitive cricket recently. Perhaps he had no choice but he was on a hiding to nothing.
In reply to imusic I did not say that, many times a #3 is an opener.
1,2 and 3 are interchangeable for teams,
In reply to natty_forever
Nope
In reply to tc1
Nullshot bout interchangeable.
The fact that #3's SOMETIMES have to come in early doesn't make them openers any more than it made Darren Sammy an opening bowler when he opened the bowling for West Indies
And before u get it twisted, Sammy is simply being used as an example.
In reply to imusic
Kuk is better than those recent scores.
In reply to JahJah
I thought that was obvious, does he look like he belongs in LO cricket,I don't think so,the 3 players I've mentioned looks more suited to LO cricket.
In reply to imusic
Ganga wasn't,but Windies mek him open.

In reply to imusic
what opening has to do with Sammy.
In reply to Samwells
I knew that ages ago
In reply to imusic
but he cannot bat spin, he reminds me of morton
In reply to Samwells
Don't throw him away just like that. In my own bias way I truly believe he is a good batsman/cricketer. He will come out of this bad patch. Leave him and let those on the outside looking in really work hard to replace him.
There must be no birth right(a la the last regime) to a place on the team.
In the glory days it was harder to be dropped than to be picked.
In reply to imusic
many middle order batsmen have moved up to open before and with great success
In reply to Wally-1
Disagree bro.
Most of Kuk's runs early in his test career when he was averaging high 40's came
In the sub continent against very good spin attacks .
In reply to doosra
I would venture to say many more have failed to do so.
In reply to imusic
It is an opportunity tho but yes not everyone can adjust and do it successfully.
In reply to doosra
Most players will do whatever it takes to make the final XI
In reply to imusic
i don't think that is what this particular case is tho.
the wi top 6 is not set in stone and very much a work in progress
