It seems like this team will be a shadow of the one that won the CPL....
Kieron Pollard - gone back to Mumbai Indians
Dwayne Smith - gone back to Chennai Super Kings
No Shoaib Malik - what's the story there?
Here's the squad
In come James Franklin, Elton Chigumbura and Dilshan Munaweera.
Kirk Edwards has been dropped...no surprise there.

I see tridents as a surprise package. they are playing with nothing lose having lost their 3 main players. still the team looks OK with depth in batting and bowling. they should have gone for a qaulity opener to replace DRS tho.
In reply to Maispwi
Hopefully, he's left already....
I see why Shoaib Malik isn't a part of the Tridents team. He's playing for Hobart Hurricanes. Does that mean the Aussies are paying him more than we are?
In reply to mikesiva
The champions league is a farce. This is ridiculous and unfair to non-ipl teams.
In reply to jballer84
George Bailey today captained King's Xl Punjab vs the Hobart hurricanes, the team he captained to win the big bash league to qualify for the clt20..
The whole thing faceted up
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
See that's why i like UEFA rules, if you play for a team for qualifying you can't play for another team against that same team you once played with.
In reply to mikesiva
Drop de Barbados from the Barbados Tridents
In reply to positiveg
But he qualified with Punjab first didn't he?
In reply to positiveg
But isn't that what's at play here?
Pollard, Bailey etc first played for their IPL teams.
Teams that they subsequently played for must have known that if those IPL teams qualified for CT20 that those players would be obligated to represent their IPL teams.
Notice is fans who mekkin noise and not the non IPL teams themselves.
Perhaps they're amply compensated for their "loss". Or perhaps not.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
U lucky warriors ain't mek it.. no Nadine no Simmons no hafeez

Yuh talking to yuh self again
In reply to Narper
U mussed switched around drinks
Cricinfo even has a cartoon on this
In reply to imusic
Yeah the fans making nise
look at the link I posted above.
And you're absolutely right this is what's at play here.
Though UEFA will allow you to play within the CL itself you however can't face a team that you have played for in the same season.
I think that's also a reason why they have trading deadlines, however this can't work in cricket because we play different times of the year.
G
it kinda jokey fa real...without Smith, Polly and Malik the Tridents are sitting ducks waiting to pluck...the biggest thing against them is lack of experience at that level...but cricket is still the game of glorious uncertainty....
This tournament is just a fcuked up farce. No one really cares.. It's all about the money..
In reply to gvenkat
U get a gold sticker.....iz just a way to get more rupees.
ok but is it showing on ESPN ?
In reply to ayub
I also feel they will do extremely well, and it won't surprise me.Their replacements are very good, especially Chiginbura, the other 2 are also very capable 20/20 players.
I hope BDos Tridents win.
In reply to granite Hope; yes; im not sure of their chances!
In reply to gvenkat
This is why I don't take it seriously...I just follow the occasional match to watch certain individual performances.
In reply to granite
There is obviously a joke somewhere in there....
Do any of the remaining players have any I=real international T20 experience?
In reply to mikesiva
Still backing dem. Hope JC delivers.
In reply to Chrissy
Pram pram...Tridents Lorse.....Chrissy seh she backing dem....
the usual locals playing...
munaweera Franklin and chigumbura all start.
Barbados bat first.
Come on Tridents poop in pollard & smith face

Dowrich in for Perkins...out for a duck.
Raymon Reifer run out...two down. Brain-dead running....
In reply to mikesiva
guyana woulda be a better match up
In reply to shivnotout
Only Trinidad has made the Caribbean proud at International stage... All the franchises are going to have problem at ClT20
Guyana - Simmons and Narine will miss
Jamaica - Gayle and Russel will miss out
Barbados - Pollard and Dwayne Smith are going to miss...
Trindad - Dwayne Bravo & Cooper are going to miss (Not to mention many who are already removed)
When matchwinners are pulled of any team they are going to struggle.
In reply to Pacy
To make matters worse for Barbados, Shoaib Malik is out too...that means the three players who scored all the runs for the Tridents were out.
The Trinidad Red Force was much stronger than any of the CPL franchises....
Another run out.
Munaweera gone....
Carter's half-century up from 40 balls.
In reply to Pacy
true that...plus one one of the "overseas" replacements is worth anything...to make matters worse Rampaul and to a slightlesser degree Holder bowled crap thus far....
Tridents need to step on the gas at this point.
SIX!!!! Carter! 141-4.
Carter showing a great deal of class here - class everyone knows he has.
In reply to hotarobin
Carter has been good and Tridents are going for a good score... Rampaul and Holder are the key.. Now they will have to perform
Jeez! Rank cane cutter swiping by Jeevan Mendis. T20 brings out the farmer in us!
SIX!!!! Carter again! 150-4.
Mendis bowled for 10. Missed a rank swipe! Shakes is head in disbelief. "That was a perfect swipe. How did I miss that?"
Jason Holder in. 17.5 overs gone.
Holder gone for 0! Hits it straight to long on. 152-6. Carter on 95.
In reply to Norm
A bittersweet century for Carter, off 64 balls...well played. But in celebrating the hundred, he runs out Nurse.
Nurse quacks too! 157-7.
100 to Carter!!!!
10 x4
5 x6
Carter 106* off 65
WOW!
In reply to mikesiva
Well deserved 100, despite the run out.
Carter needs to put all that immense talent to good use, for Barbados and WI. He is one of the few around that could go very, very far if he gets his act together.
He is putting his tennis skills to good use in this innings!
Hosein batting. Last over. Hits the first ball over the covers for 4!
Darn. What a catch to get rid of Hosein! 170-8. Two balls to go. Emrit in.
174-8 off 20. Carter 111 not out! Gets a round of applause from his teammates.
This is a small ground and a nice outfield. 175 from 20 may just be par. top knock by Carter 111* off 68.
Carter played a really good innings after coming into the wicket during times of crisis. The 3 run outs actually put the game back. If that Munnaveera Runout had been avoided BT could well have got another 20 runs.
Still 175 is a good innings and now it is for the bowlers to take it forward

Holder opens the bowling. Amla dropped by Mendis at mid wicket. Catch not that difficult. Mendis moved rather slowly to the ball.
more crap by Holder....
Hosean from the other end. Amla takes 2 fours off his first 2 balls.
16-0 off 2.
Holder again. Straying a bit down leg, but bowling good yorkers.
Outside off. SIX!!! Then, shorter and SIX more!!!
In reply to Norm
dang match lost in that one over....Holder has been pleasantly surprising me recently with both the bat and ball but now has reverted to unimpressive rubbish....
dis done...Tridents fell on their own trident and committed suicide...
Pathetic bowling by 2 International bowlers.
In reply to Pacy
If if if.
He played a good innings. Runouts are part and parcel of the game. This score is par.
In reply to mikesiva... why you bashing holder on cricinfo.com?
In reply to hotarobin
0,6,6,4,4,6!!!! 26 off the over.
Darn. What happened to Holder there?
42-0 off 3 overs!!!
In reply to Norm... decided to go full ... bad idea.
In reply to natty_forever
Because I don't rate him...as Bishop says, he needs to gain an extra yard or two of pace.
But there are some folks, there and here, who think he's the new messiah.
Levy goes! Well bowled Hosein.
In reply to natty_forever
He was full almost every delivery, and one was a highish full toss.
Couldn't he try something different?
Ramps taking blows too!
In reply to Norm... he'll come back stronger ... you hearing mikesiva
Front foot no ball by Rampaul.
4! Amla with the tennis swat!
In reply to natty_forever
This is T20. So getting struck for 26 in an over is not that unusual. He (Holder) could easily come back and bowl 2 great overs at the death!
In reply to Norm
Really. Let me make a note of this.
Tridents looking pretty dented at the moment!
Emrit with the ball.
In reply to voiceofreason... them looking very Zouksish here.
In reply to voiceofreason
Was that your useful and positive contribution here, or are you gathering poison? Man, you have really fallen away.
Nurse to bowl. Keeps it tight. Gets away with a long hop off the last ball. Only 4 off his first over.
Emrit again. Hslf volley to Amla, who strokes it beautifully for 4!!!! Beats 2 men on the way.
Emrit taking blows too! Cobras playing like the team that wants to win here.
85-1 off 9 overs.
Hard to understand how in this attack Mayers cant get a play and Reifer cant get a bowl. Mayers could open bowling to good effect and is no worse a batting option than Franklin.
In reply to Norm Whichever way you chose to spin it. I am enjoying the honesty.
All of a sudden you are Mr. West Indies. A deviation from the norm...Pun intended.
Amla playing a masterclass here. Shade of things to come.
Nurse bowling with spirit, but sending down too many long hops. He has been getting away with them tho.
Mendis to bowl.
All ya still watching this suicide by Tridents??
Shopkeeper Dowrich... Two punds of sugar, one pound of salt and a pound of flour please...
Stumped!!! Ramela missed a well flighted one. 99-2 off 11.
Hosean back. Getting good turn. Beats Amla, but it's pitched outside leg. 103-2 off 12.
Spinners have brought the Tridents back into the picture a bit.
Amla gets his 50, off 35 balls. 114-2 off 13.
In reply to voiceofreason
Amla caught behind square off Hosean!!! Off a no ball!!!
Free hit. Single only. Whew!
125-2 off 14.
Mendis again. Flighting his leg breaks nicely. Drops a return catch off Amla!!!
Then beats him as he charges down the track. Stumped by Dowrich!!!!
126-3 off 14.4.
Robin Peterson in.
Tridents still in this.
127-3 off 15.
Nurse with the ball. Short on the pads and swept for 4!
Bowling around the wicket, into the right-hander's pads.
134-3 off 16. Good over, that.
Mendis again. On target. Umps does not give him an lbw he should have gotten.
SIX!!!! To add insult to injury.
Mendis runs in. Batsman (Peterson) switches from lefty to righty and Mendis hangs on to the ball! Does it again! Umps step in. Crowd gets noisy!
Bowls, batsman switches, lobs it high and is caught!!!
Engelbrecht in.143-4 off 16.4.
Another one caught off Mendis!!!!
143-5 off 17.
Tridents are fighting back!!!
In reply to voiceofreason
Nurse with the 18th over.
Tridents have come alive on the field again. Engelbrecht drives it back hard but Nurse is not quick enough to take the catch. Goes for 4!
SIX!!!! 157-5 off 18. 18 needed from 2 overs. Not looking good for the Tridents.
Ramps to bowl.
In reply to Norm
emrit need to bowl
Another long hop dispatched
In reply to Nyabinghi
He should have bowled over number 18.
In reply to Nyabinghi
Let' hope Ramps does well.
Full toss, 1st ball. Single only. Whew!
Ramps taking the pace off the ball.
Emrit hiding like you know who
In reply to Headley
Not a leader
good player, lack confidence in his own ability
Ramps hiding the balls just inside the wide line on the off side!
162-5 off 19. 13 needed.
In reply to Norm
Emrit step up
Super knock for Carter , Tridents fighting here
Emrit will take the last over!!!
1

Excellent over number 19 Ravi. He surprise mi. Keep it up!
Cricinfo not updating
5 needed from 2.
3 off 1. Emrit is calm. Tension everywhere else!
Full toss! Swung to leg. Two taken!!! Dowrich dropped the return that would been a run out by miles, and victory.
Super over now!!!
In reply to Norm
Super over coming up
In reply to Chrissy
Quite a match!
wow please keep the updates ,
brilliant captaincy from Emrit gave them a chance
Dowrich blew it.
gutsy move from the skipper to bowl himself and decent enough result..
Dowrich might take a lot of heat here.
In reply to Ridge
Dowrich not dealing with pressure well
Umps walk out. Cobras to bat. Vilas and ?
Tridents take the field.
Question is:
Who will bowl the super over for the Tridents? Rampaul?
Conventional wisdom would be for Carter to be one of the bats, but I would not do it. He is too slow a starter and relies way too much on timing.
Ramps to bowl. Big-hitting Levi to take strike.
In reply to Headley
Holder!
Rampaul?
0.1. Yorker just outside leg. Inside edge for 1.
0.2 4!!!!
444444
Rampaul is like the Canadian weather. One day hot another one cold.
Hope he blows hot here now.
0.2 Half volley on leg. Hit to long on for 4.
0.3 Better ball. Yorker on leg. 2.
0.4 Same thing. 2 more.
0.5 Single.
0.6 Down leg. Single!
12 to win
In reply to Norm
good over
Go Tridents! Great over by Ramps! A series of yorkers just outside leg.
Cobras couldn't take advantage of the balls down leg. All they had to do was let them through.
Second chance to bring it home Tridents
Umps back out.
Tridents need only 11, having scored more boundaries in the regular overs.
Carter and Munaweera.
that SL opener
Engelbrecht (right arm spinner) with the ball. Munaweera to take strike.
0.1 Single.
0.2 Four!!!
44444444444
0.3 1 to long off. 5 needed from 3 balls.
0.4 Munaweera caught at square leg. Holder in.
In reply to Norm
6 off 3
5 off 2
Two!!!!
4 needed. Carter on strike. Last ball. Just don't miss it, Carts.
Full toss on leg. Edged past leg slip. Two only. Tridents have lost.
Carter emotional. Down on the pitch, face down. Cobras shake hands and walk off.
In reply to Norm
should have started with Holder and Carter
In reply to methodic
Tough, but the Tridents have represented themselves decently. Nervousness?
They missed critical chances, but were quite competitive.
In reply to Norm
Ran full toss - should have nailed dat. They should have won this game earlier.
In reply to Chrissy
He should have, and he (Carter) knew it.
Tridents lost by fumbling their chances.
Carter crying can't help you now.
You got a rank leg stump full toss
Nerves got the better of them . The Trinidad and Tobago Red Force continues to be the only team from the region that has represented the region well in this tournament.
In reply to Cornfused
And they won, correct?
Only one team representing the region has made it past the group stage or those who need to qualify did not come out of the qualifiers . Check your info and see which team that has been .
In reply to Cornfused
How many teams from the region have won?
i would never open a super over with carter
Barbados Tridents Team
EMDY Munaweera, ND McKenzie, RA Reifer, JL Carter, JEC Franklin, JO Holder, AJ Hosein, AR Nurse, KR Mayers, RR Emrit*, R Rampaul
Is that Leon Johnson with the Tridents?
McKenzie, Reifer and Munaweera all out...this looks ominous.
Reifer was not looking as if he was in control against Hilfenhaus and Bollinger.
26-2.
Munaweera gone now!
26-3.
James Franklin in, to face the hat-trick ball. Short and defended successfully.
Tridents in big trouble, as Carter comes to the middle.
28-3 after 6, with Franklin playing much more off the edges than the middle.
Franklin starting to middle the ball now. Takes 2 fours off the 8th over.
41-3 off 8.
Malik bowls the 9th over. Almost bowls Carter, who barely got an inside edge, past stumps and keeper for 4.
48-3 off 9.
Xavier Dougherty on, bowling off spin, to Franklin.
Bowls him first ball! 48-4.
Jason Holder in.
50-4 off 10. Holder 2(5 balls), Carter 9(13).
Bollinger back.
52-4 off 11. Tridents digging themselves into a hole here?
Dougherty continues.
60-4 off 12.
Malik again.
SIX!!!! Carter! Goes to 24, score to 68-4.
70-4 off 13.
Doherty again. Holder lofts him to long off and is caught for 5, off 10 balls.
70-5.
Akiel Hosein in.
Doherty short on the pads to Hosein, who swings him nicely behind square for 4!
SIX!!! Carter off Doherty.
82-5 off 14.
Laughlin on.
SIX!!!! Hosein, after 4 dots.
89-5 off 15.
Bollinger back.
Hosein swings him high to long on and is caught.
89-6 off 15.1.
Nurse in. The Tridents really need a nurse here!
Bollinger to Carter - 4!!! Straight back, a bit airily.
Turns him past square leg for 4 more!
99-6 off 16. Carter on 42.
Doherty back, to Nurse.
Lbw first ball!
99-7 off 16.1.
Mayers in.
Carter caught at fine leg for 42!
101-8 off 16.3.
Emrit in.
104-8 off 17.
Poor stuff Emrit.
Laughlin continues.
2 dots to Emrit who strokes the 3rd to deep cover and sets off quickly for a decent single. Mayers stays put and Emrit is easily run out.
104-9.
105-9 off 18.
109-9 off 19. Hilfenhaus rapped Ramps in the ribs with a short one. The heavily padded Ramps seems unperturbed by it!
Ramps run out!!!! All gone for 113. Mayers hit it into the deep on the off side and they were scampering for 2.
Should be over quickly, but it would be interesting to see if Mayers gets it to swing, as he often does.
Umps are back on, players are back on and Mayers has the ball. Carter is keeping wicket.
0.4 Gone!!!!! Caught brilliantly at silly mid off by McKenzie!!
Mayers befuddling the batsman with swing. Not big, but swinging.
Concedes 2 fours off the 2 last balls of the over.
Ramps to bowl.
Dropped at 2nd slip by McKenzie!!! Had to dive far to his left.
12-1 off 2, as Nurse to bowl.
Ramps continues, and Reifer puts down a fairly straightforward catch at square leg.
No-ball called! Seems an incorrect call.
Free hit. Short, top-edged, falls in front of batsman. No run.
19-1 off 4.
Nurse again.
26-1 off 5. Nurse keeping it tight.
Ramps continues.
32-1 off 6.
Numaweera on, bowling off-spin with a high action.
Caught!!!! In the gully area.
32-2 off 6.
Dropped by keeper Carter down the leg side, and run out missed too! Rather difficult chance, that.
37-2 off 7.
Hosein on.
Emrit misfields now!
44-2 off 8.
Munaweera again.
50-2 off 9.
Hosein again.
Gone!!!! Lbw. Batsman seemed unlucky there, as that seemed to be just going down leg.
Replay shows the call was actually quite good.
54-3 off 9.3
Nice one Hosein. Soon as u stopped bowling dem darts u looked dangerous.
Holder fields a bit sloppily at long on and lets through a 4.
58-3 off 10.
Nurse back.
66-3 off 11.
Emrit to bowl.
70-3 off 12.
Hosein continue. Bowls him!!!
Kept the batsman quiet, which led o a rash sweep to a ball on middle stump. Took the pad and lobbed onto the stumps.
71-4 off 12.3
73-4 off 13.
Emrit continues.
80-4 off 14.
Jason Holder finally gets the ball. Tridents have give up, or does Emrit feel there is nothing to lose now?
Bowling it short and fast. Batsmen pull and pepper the boundary, but the fielding holds up.
94-4 off 16.
Ramps back. Malik skies it high and Nurse drops a fairly straightforward one on the boundary.
SIX!!!!
104-4 off 17. 10 needed.
Holder again.
109-4 off 18.
Emrit back.
1st ball - 4!!! 1 to win.
2nd ball - 4 more!!!!
Tridents have lost.
Holder was the seventh bowler used...clearly, Emrit had no faith in him.
In reply to mikesiva
The Tridents seem to have gone into this match with little or no confidence in themselves.
It would seem that there was a lot of criticism inside the team after the last match, with a couple of players "penalized".
It was good to see Mayers, but you have to wonder why he got a single over only. There seems to have been no particular bowling strategy.
I don't think those players who abandoned the Tridents for other teams in this competition did the team any good when they really needed it.
In reply to Norm
FACT - when tridents really needed it (During the CPL) those players were front and centre. So much so the tridents won the CPL competition in large part because of those players.
FACT - ANY club team that has players on that team that also play in IPL know that the IPL teams take precedence in the case of head to head
Competition. The only example where that was not the case was when sangkakarra chose to play for his Sri Lankan club team rather than his IPL team. He never played IPL again after that.
BOTTOM LINE - players aren't going to opt to represent another team over their IPL team unless it's in their best (financial) interests to do so. The CPL teams know that. Big Bash teams know that. The IPL teams
Know that.
Corey Amderson opted to play for Mumbai Indians rather than
Play for Northern lLights (the punk team from NZ). Anderson didn't get a game for Mumbai. But if he had to do it over again, he would do the same.
In reply to imusic
Good, and hopefully the CPL teams remember that next season.
At this point, the CPL seems to have lost sight of one of its primary objectives - the development of T20 cricket in the Caribbean (an opinion first presented by BatQuake, albeit very poorly.)
In reply to Norm
You're naive if you think they didn't already know that.
They made a business decision. They're in the results business, therefore they will give themselves what they think is the best chance to win.
Perhaps they should have not selected Pollard, Matrix, and Shoaib Malik and instead selected players who they knew would have no conflict should they win the CPL
Trouble is, there chances of winning CPL to even make the CT20 in the first place decrease significantly without those players.
If you''re in the results business, what would you do?
In reply to Norm
That's a curious objective.
Given that there's currently no avenue for players not selected to a CPL team to showcase their T20 skills.
And how exactly does the CPL develop T20 cricket in the Caribbean? What specifically does it do to further that objective?
In reply to Norm
They sure will and probably will try to get more local IPL players.
How much they made.....150K per player.
300K on Smith and Polly.
In reply to imusic
Depends on what are the "results". That could be (1) - maximum profits for one or more parties, (2) - becoming the best T20 team in the world by winning the T20 World Cup, (3) - winning the Champions League, (4) - providing a source of income for regional players, etc.
Of the above, only (1) is not necessarily a variation of "developing regional cricket".
You,of course, did not provide your own opinion for others to "chew" on, but I am sure your "results" does not include "exploiting regional players for non-WICB profit".
Assuming then, that "results" refer to a variation of "developing regional cricket", I would pursue (2) above - but that's just my view.
In reply to Andy99
"They" refers to the WICB, regional board or franchise owner?
Or, is there some kind of sharing?
In reply to Norm
From what as said on this board when I asked, it goes to the franchise owners.
In reply to Norm
If. You honestly feel that the #1 goal, or even in the top 3, of CPL owners is to see the WI team as #1 in the world in T20 cricket, you more naive than I thought.
When I say that, I mean no disrespect.
In reply to Andy99
If it goes to the franchise owners, which is more lucrative?
Winning the CT20?
Or Win CPL and give up your best players to the IPL for that tourn-meant knowing you will be compensated for doing so?
To win CT20 with the best players means you'll have to pay more than what IPL pays them
First you have to win CPL. To win CPL you have to select the best available
Players. Some of those players will already be contracted to IPL teams. Of you don't select them, somebody else will.
You can employ these players at lesser wages, and when they go to CT20 with their IPL teams, you receive a kickback for doing so AND still have a theoretical chance at winning the CT20.
Bottom line, if you want to employ AND KEEP the best players, you pay them accordingly. If you can't compete on the wage front, you do the next best thing.
In reply to imusic
You are hopeless. You offer nothing of your own to discussions and inevitably concede your lack of constructive input by cussing others.
In reply to Norm
And where did I cuss you or anyone else here?
Barbados Tridents have won the toss and will bowl first.
Rayad Emrit: There's a lot of dew so we want to bowl first. Two games we should have won and another was very close. There's a lot of dew, it looks really wet. Neil McKenzie is out and Elton Chigumbura is in today.
Holder's first over...fastest ball was 130kph. Everything else was in the 120s or less...that's Sammy-like pace.
In reply to mikesiva
Emrit was right not to bowl him the other day.
9.55pm It has stopped raining, the covers are off and the umpires are out for an inspection. They say the match will resume at 10.15pm and it has been reduced to 19-overs a side
75-3 after 12.3, or 83 for 4 after 13.3
89/4 after 15
103/5 after 16
Ashley Nurse poor cricketer
Emrit like he's old school, you bowl crap, you don't get to bowl.
19/0 after 3
76/3 after 10
need 62 from 43
In reply to Cornfused
Franklin selling out.
17 runs from that over
97/3 after 14
42 from 30 needed
29 from 18 needed
12 from 7
