To what avail? I don't understand your obsession with naming the greatest, best etc...however for your consumption I will ask you to define the criteria.

Most runs
Hardest hitters

Aggressive
Pugnacious
In reply to Babylon
I done wid he.....he IS an idiot!
@RMc@
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
How is the man an idiot?
You can only identify "best and the rest of the spectrum" if you can develop an appraisal system for what is being appraised.
The appraisal system is called a criteria for appraisal.
There are numerous appraisal methodologies.
Any other way will lead to subjectivity or gut
feeling.
.......
Sorry runout if you are a girly.
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Spudzie, how did you come to that conclusion?
Because Babylon said so you agree with him? I guess in the absence of standards, any standard is applicable?
See your problem!
In reply to Courtesy
Nah man I cool...just trying to get these guys to qualify/quantify their standards...
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Brian Lara, George Headley, Everton Weekes, Gar Sobers, Viv Richards, Rohan Khanai.

the man is an idiot BECAUSE HE SHOULD KNOW HIS OWN STANDARDS AND BE ABLE TO JUDGE BASED ON HIS STANDARDS
No one has to agree.....I asked for HIS assessment!
Noo???????????
Yuh slipping big time!
Steeeeeeeeuuupppssss......
Oh well..
@RMc@
P.S: Now.............have you listed ur 6??
It's YOURS, Curtsie.........come forward.
Huh??
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Spudsie...so by your standards, no one and everyone qualifies to be the best. See the flaw in your reasoning.
Come on, you sure everything is ok? You seem a bit perturbed for no reason other than being asked to explain yourself and lend a bit of clarity to the discussion you started.
Now how would you liked to be judged based on your response here?
Courtsey......again.....who are your six????
Tx
@RMc@
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Based on who I saw live and my criteria
Lara,Viv,Hooper,Shiv, Gayle and GG
Lara - the greatest I have ever seen and a pleasure to watch
Viv - Sheer Intimidation and brute force, distructive, bravest of them all
Hooper - Grace personified, easy on the eyes, effortless elegance
Shiv - Stickability, boring as hell but can't argue with production
Gayle - Entertainer personified, also destructive, I will pay to watch him in any format anytime
GG - Good open bats, great on the go
Khanai, Kalli, Shiv, Sarwan, Solomon and Sir Carl Hooper!!!!
In reply to WestDem

Headly makes any all time west indies 11
So now Spudzie, now that you have this info. then what?
Here you have these chaps gleefully putting up meaningless WI best for what purpose? The best of the WI right now is Shiv, and I am sure you will agree....however it seems like you are content to live out your existence in a non-existent glorified past that never existed, nor ever will.
In reply to Courtesy
Any other way will lead to subjectivity or gut
feeling.
You are correct in above...
That said, I don't understand why posters arguing with Spuds.
Just like "Greatness" thread, Spuds listed his appraisal methodology, criteria plus players...of course subjective. All others have to do is list theirs so that all methodologies, along with players, can be placed under scrutiny...instead of just one...Spudsie's gut feelings.
Spudsie's appraisal was craftily designed and implemented. Instead of attackng Spuds, posters should design appraisals to counter his.
Same here with 6 players. Bedydread listed his players and criteria. Nothing Spuds can do about that, 'cept to engage in positive argument. He can only challenge Bedy with his criteria to which Bedy will counter with his own.
It will come down to "subjectivity or gut feeling"...winner will be one with biggest gut.
In reply to Lenks
Dude...Spdzie likes the exchange...gets him excited, and keeps him occupied. I am performing my civic duty as a fellow Windian.
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Yuh bline or what?
Yuh listed your six and asked others to list theirs.
Man listed his six.
If Headley shouldn't be ahead o Shiv, engage the man with arguments.
In reply to runout
Yeah...doesn't mean most a unnu haffi tek ass whipping in di process...cause dat is exactly what him doing.
In reply to Lenks
It did say on another thread there is no value in a discussion of this nature.
Anyone can prepare his/own criteria to come up with great batsmen.
I done with dis foolishness...over now to WICB and WIPA matters.
........
It appears that West Indies cricketers are now being short changed.
In reply to Courtesy

In reply to seaegg99
Why Worrell ahead of Shiv?
@RMc@
In reply to Lenks
Really? You think so?
The man engages in useless exeercises out of boredom, and I try to engage him in a civil matter all for his sanity and you call that what again?
He makes as much sense as a wall ornament that is dust covered and invisible. But I leave that judgement for all and sundry.
In reply to Linc
H
So then Constantine is one of the greatest pacers?
So ramadin or valentine was our greatest spinner?
So Butcher better than Lloyd cuz he came before??
Wheel and come again.
@RMc@
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
I doubt that anyone here saw Headly bat, and if they do then it must be from well worn memories. That said, what is the yard stick for judging Headly as one of the 6 best? Spudzie?
In reply to Lenks
Tell them...............they ain too smart.

Grandpa spuds nah know context...he juss know to blow wind....
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
A great Australian spinner said before the first test Against West Indies.....that he knows Headley's weakness and went out and prove it. After the test he stated that Headley weakness was on the pads..
At the end of the test series that same bowler came back and said that Headley is the great batsman he has ever seen playing off the pads.. including Bradman.. with that in mind, the books on Headley and his other peers... yes., he is our Greatest batsman in my book.
Butcher: yes he was better than Lloyd..
Again in my opinion he is Guyana's third best batsman.. Kanhai, Kalli, then Basil B.
I don't care what the average and runs say... I've seen the Guyanese batsmen of the 60s and 70s and Basil B was special....
Lara, Richards, Sobers,Chanderpaul,Weeks, Kanhai - THE END!!!
In reply to Linc
I'll juss say you NUTS if u think Butcher was better than Lloyd.
Regards nevertheless!

Worrell was a great leader and still one of the most classical batsmen we ever produced. He was the forerunner of Nurse, Rowe and Hooper. Love Shiv but he sometimes forces me to lose interest while he is out there. First match was 1965 and batting now is a far cry from that time. Conrad Hunte got me into opening batting. Just love how he would take on the fast bowlers back then. Batting was an art back then.
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
LLoyd for me is better than Butcher. LLoyd could just take over a match. Just overpower it. Butcher was a strong legside player. Best matche of the year at Kensington Oval was Barbados against BG as the old fellas used to say. The most wonderful batting you will ever see. Most times better than a test match. Just sheer creative stroke play.
Makes me wonder if Shiv is really from Guyana.
Kanhai was best Guyanese batsman I saw.
Kanhai,Lloyd,Kallicharran,Butcher,Shiv,Freddo
all I got to say is this: Lara and Shiv in their prime played against SA in SA...THE RESULT: 5-0
similar such blackouts and these two of the greatest WI bats playing together.
Sobers and Kanhai in their prime...tell me about the blackwashes.
still can't deny Lara's position of one of our greatest...but not Shiv. The six greatest WI bats ...each of them made a difference between defeat and victory.
Sobers,Viv,Weekes,Kanhai,Headley,Lara
based on who i've seen - Rowe, Viv, Lara, Kanhai, Sobers, - based on the record Headley - honourable mention Kalli
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
The top 6 WI batsmen who I saw are
Sobers,Richards,Lara,Kanhai,Chanderpaul and Lloyd.
The top 6 WI batsmen are
Sobers,Richards,Lara,Headley,Kanhai and Weekes.
why do so few people have Shiv as one of their top 6??
West Dim?? Googly? Anandbg? RUnknown??
Tx.
@RMc@
Viv Richards, Garfield Sobers, Brian Lara, George Headley, Everton Weeks, Clyde Walcott.
Worrell and Kanhai miss out only slightly because I was limited to six.
If anyone doubts Walcott's stamp of greatness and elevation to the top 6 in the Windies cricket, they should reference this tour by clicking on the numbered Test for a demonstration of domination against the world's best at that time.
In terms of domination, few other Windies batsmen have dominated a series at least once like those batsmen in my list.
