Live WICB press conference on Pro League
CCC players facted!!! Straight up...either you play full time cricket now or no accomodations being made for you if you're a student and cricketer....WOW WOW WOW!!!
Not mutually exclusive!
Frank Worrell, Deryk Murray and Franz Alexander, among others, were able to manage it.
Unfortunate for CCC but I always believe the best 100 or so players should be accorded all the opportunities to play-regardless of territory of origin.
In reply to jacksprat
Twist it and turn t how you want it's an anti education stance, and should be loudly condemned....
In reply to Larr Pullo
Steeeups. Education is not the responsibility of the WICB.
_r
In reply to Admin
corrected
In reply to Admin
No but education would help the on field product...
In reply to Commie
Touche!!
In reply to jacksprat
Murray did not play when he was at Oxford or Cambridge isn't that how Hendricks made the team.
In reply to Larr Pullo
CCC needs to go play against other colleges. WICB can't be investing the already limited resources in part-timers who will never play at the highest level.
Do like Shiv, pick one.
_r
In reply to Admin
You not making sense...
In reply to Admin
one can also say that schools should not spend scarce resources on cricket!
In reply to camos
Amin not any better than Soft head and Jamaican dave, and a see Wavell tight with them...the cricket in the hands of three buffoons....
In reply to camos
Correct.
_r
In reply to Admin
You'd never have a Kraigg Braithwaite coming through then.....
In reply to Larr Pullo
We had Shiv, Sarwan, Gayle, the Bravos, Viv, Lara, whoever, whoever come through just fine without Hilary wasting UWI money on his little pet project.
You notice that as soon as WICB catch sense and kill the CCC nonsense, he resigned as a WICB director. That's called commitment right there.
_r
In reply to Larr Pullo
Pybus anyone??? Have they made any announcement regarding the HPC?
In reply to Admin
First it was scarce WICB resources, now it's UWI money. Make up your mind!!!
In reply to Walco
Talking about it now.....
In reply to Larr Pullo
Both. Wasted money everywhere.

In reply to Admin
...or he did what many progressive thinking people in the region do when they get fed up with the backwardness. They simply say "I really have no time for that shit. I have better things to do with my time".
Can there be a compromise. With the franchise cricket coming, I see the need for a strong college/university league, from which players can be drafted. Yes I watch too many American sports.
In reply to JOJO
Or, If I don't open the batting, I taking my bat and going home.
_r
Did anybody get anything of substance from this press conference?
Such as....
1) Have central contracts been signed, and who's on the list?
2) When exactly is this Pro League starting?
3) Have the countries chosen their contracted players, and if not, when will they do so?
4) When is this so-called draft taking place?
I've been following the twitter, but all they have are meaningless platitudes....
Alyuh cussing and wailing about "professionalizing" the cricket. Now the people making it fulltime professional, alyuh still fuq'n cussing.
As the man just said, "i'm sorry that's not the system we are implementing".
_r
In reply to mikesiva
Yeah, it's just a lot of yapping about what we already know. Nothing new announced.
_r
In reply to Admin
Same as always...regurgitation.
In reply to Admin
You're not a thought leader on this. We have limited resources, we should look to maximise the resources at hand rather than cull them for spurious reasons. No one like Hillary, so anything he proposes simply cannot have merit. Pack ah skunts!!!
In reply to Larr Pullo
He proposed CCC. CCC was implemented for several seasons.
How many players from CCC went on to represent the WI senior team?
In reply to imusic
Is that how you measure success? You had a captain coming out of the CCC...u sure you want to trod down that road?
In reply to Larr Pullo
Ida just ain't like Hillary . That's all
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
In the WI they believe in killing off a man AND his ideas....no matter how beneficial they may be.
You want professional cricket? Or you want charity? Pick one.
_r
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
I don't know who Ida is. But I join him/her in not being a fan of narcissism.
_r
In reply to Admin
Ida is your female alter ego...
In reply to Larr Pullo
Then she's a smart, thought leader too. I support whatever she says.
_r
In reply to Admin
Btw I agree that ccc cannot be accommodated in a pro league
Lets be honest... CCC was not formed to bring academics to cricket but rather to be a collection vessel for those on the periphery of theirs ( or is that bim's) national team.
In reply to Larr Pullo
You're right. Counting in those players that stood in against Bangladesh and the Champions Trophy in SA, many players from CCC went on to represent the WI senior team.
That's exactly how it's measured in professional sport.
If you're not producing players, why continue being supported? Produce or Perish.
Leewards next.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Are you surprised that you agree with me so often?
_r
In reply to imusic
If that rule was in place long ago, we wouldn't have had a Brian Lara as TNT would've been abolished long ago.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
What kind of nonsense is this? Does anyone not understand professional franchise cricket and how it works?
_r
In reply to Admin
Stfu. I referring to imusic saying if you not producing players for wi then like CCC and leeward next, they should be abolished.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
What's wrong with what he said? He is 100% right. Get rid of Windwards too.
_r
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Cricket wasn't a pro sport then
In reply to Admin
And Guyana too. After Shiv who? and before Lara era who TNT had? we would've get rid of wunnuh too
Well at least CCC implemented player movement first....
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Barbados woulda been gone too for the years alyuh was in the doldrums...
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Finally you getting the point. Absolutely Guyana too. I would discard Guyana right alongside Windwards and Leewards.
_r
In reply to Admin
Then u end up with?????????
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Pro league....
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Those that produce.
It is Sagicors money that keeping it alive, not WICB...they dont have any
WIPA took it all during Ramnarines reign via the court system.
BTW, it seems this Pybus want to create a bunch of dunces to play cricket in this technological world!
In addition, Hilary stepped down because of the future workload as the new Vice Chancellor which commences next year,2015.
At the international level Sir Hilary, a Barbadian, currently serves as a member of the UN Secretary-Generals Science Advisory Board on Sustainable Development, Chairman of the Caribbean Reparations Commission, Vice President of the International Task Force for the UNESCO Slave Route and adviser to the UN World Culture Report among other posts.
.
In reply to TheTrail
Sir Hillary's legacy is secure...WI cricket was a burden on him. He don't need that.
Shades of the White Man's Burden?
In reply to Larr Pullo
Missed it. But from the responses here it seems it was a waste of time.
In reply to Admin
Franchise and WI team mutually exclusive or something?
In reply to Larr Pullo
Meaning?
_r
After witnessing the recently conclude Baseball Little League World Series and how impactful it is on youths in NA and the rest of the world, I think West Indies would be well served if they have such a competition at the U-15 level that is SHOWCASED across the Caribbean on TV to get our youths excited about cricket and eventually harness our best young athletes for the game of cricket. I really think this can transcends the sport professionally in the Caribbean!
Let me go assemble some investors and get a private enterprise started. Crowdfunding anyone??
