Bridgetown, Barbados – Regional business executive and Director of the West Indies Cricket Board Don Wehby, said today that the professionalization of First Class cricket in the West Indies will revolutionize the game in the region.

The WICB is about to roll out a full Professional First Class Franchise System in which a cadre of 90 players will be engaged in a professional cricket structure on a day-to-day basis, year round.

“I am excited by the prospects for the success of this professional structure and I urge that it receive the support of regional governments, corporate Caribbean, fans, the tourism sector and all the facets of our society which hold cricket dear,” urged Wehby, a former Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Public Service in the Jamaican government.

POINT 2014-09-22 17:41:15

Time will tell whether " Talk is Cheap " .My hope & expectation is that emphasis will be placed on the Issues I
have continuously raised in this Forum .

Proper preparation is essential .The
Stamina , Mental & Physical of all
Players must be seriously addressed .

So also must be the ability to concentrate for long periods .The ability to pace an innings is essential .

Proper Preparation Prevents Piss Poor
Performances .Therefore it is imperative that Teams have proper Camps .

Now if all these Issues I have raised are not seriously addressed then the WICB is simply Spinning Top in Mud .

Don is the Group CEO for Grace Kennedy...
good guy.. played cricket at StGC as a schoolboy... and was a hurdler

Grace Kennedy sponsors nuff schoolboy events including the cricket as Chrissy pointed out

no idea on the franchise sponsorship but seems to me that the JCA should be looking for sponsors...

Muirhead appoint Cameron smile

You are aware that Cameron was VP to Hunte right.

The issue quite simply is that everyone leverages relationships.

Rousseau did it.
Ken Gordon did it
Hunte did it (though his choice was strange because Hilaire was his political opponent)

The idea that people should feel optimistic or pessimistic based on which nationality is president is amusing. The Board is the Board.

Like in politics throughout the region there is very little policy difference between regimes, only an understanding of who they will patronise when they are in power.

The real difference is the faux efficiency being touted now.

Wavell Hinds is operating as a junior to the WICB seniors and that is not in the interest of WIPA.

Pragmatism dictates that Chris Gayle came two days before a Test Match and played for WI, and yet Narine, who has an outstanding record for WI vs NZ at home, was left out of a series on the basis of missing a camp, and WI lost a series for the first time in 10 years vs NZ at home.

Can you imagine what would have been said if that was supposedly Hunte and Hilaire presiding over that decision making ?

Instead Wavell endorsed their approach, and everyone said jolly good show..

Its at least a little bit funny.big grin
