In reply to Chrissy He is the only west indian who impressed. And apart from the Sri Lankans he is the only one on the team who impressed.

Not gonna happen. The WICB will hurry and select him. Remember Lionel Baker

I hope though that people remember that Carter was deemed a failure in this year's CPL tournament and was dropped from the team. He just could not get going and for a batsman who can bat naturally at over a run a ball in the regional four day tournament he was struggling to get the ball away in the T20 format - reality is that he was trying to be a slogger which he is not. He got a chance to bat himself in and get his timing in the 2nd CLT match because, with the early fall of wickets, that's what the team required.

What I'm saying is that most of these Caribbean cricketers just have not had a chance to play enough cricket in any high level in form of the game, and least of all T20, to really learn their game, That's why it's frustrating when mediocre international players, who aren't good enough to keep them in the tournament or teach the local players anything, keep these youngsters out the team.

Good points. Kind of refreshing to read a post with apt information used for analysis.

You've identified process related issues and reminded us how a breakdown in process due to missing steps or incomplete/inadequate activities affected results and objectives. You mentioned how a change in the process led to better results.

Problem is, for most of us in the WI the process is unimportant it's only the selection and the result that requires analysis. It's all about soundbytes. (For example, is he good enough? Is he focused? Is he mentally soft?)

It usually degenerates to name calling about here.

Sadly our approach to cricket and even more important politics in the WI is the same, and not surprisingly, the results don't differ.

I this year CPL Carter had one reasonable chance with the bat and he scored 30+, he then had another chance with limited overs remaining, he fail under that situation and was promptly dropped. Carter needs to bat early with lots of overs, he's not a Pollard.

Getting an IPL contract is not easy wuk fuh West Indians, or anyone thats not from India, South Africa or Australia.

Unless you possess the raw power of a Pollard or Russell or to a lesser extent Barnwell you'd find it extremely tough to get a pick.
Lewis last year in the CL was impressive he got nothing. Look how long it took fuh Simmo to get one and that was only after selections were limited during the season fuh Mumbai.

West Indian batsmen are know to be poor rotators of the strike and very poor vs spin, IPL teams won't take chances with the typical West Indian batsman.

Good points, but the WI players that are in the league are top drawers and players like Carter, Lewis, Jr, and Johnson played well too.

He seems to be good at Building an innings... Even if IPL dosent take him WI should look at him for their LO side.

In Johnson and Carter I see couple of players who are looking compact with good footwork. These would be better options than the allrounders we have who are hit or miss.

They are the best of the lot, but should learn to play each ball like JC and LJ instead of trying to be Brian.

I like Carter, but don't think he is ah good T20 player, however, that 100 speaks volumes

A player like Carter has been around for years and cannot dominate or highlight his talent but, scores a ton then all of a sudden he is the second coming??

I am not impressed-

ayub 2014-09-29 01:42:19

I can awe Carter being signed by an ipl team bcoz he also comes with the bonus of being able to keep and also handy with the ball.

FuzzyWuzzy 2014-09-29 03:46:56

I agree with Andy. A straight batsman is not gonna get picked up by the ipl unless he comes with an already big reputation like a Sanga or mahaela. And even they are being left out.

Well said bro...

To sum it up...

Most fariners in IPL are top batsmen/T20 batsmen and allrounders. Few top bowlers...just for bowling...like a Narine/Steyn, still those bowlers can swing the bat.

Prior to that ton, Carter played 39 T20 games with a SR of 98.3. Now his SR is up to 105.4. His average is pretty decent, 24.4. Put average and SR together, you get the true picture...as Andy alluded about WI batsmen, a batsman who might soak up deliveries.

Look at Darren Bravo in T20...73 games, SR 116, AVG 34, 10 fifties...

If it's just for his batting, chances are, no IPL team would pick him up...

Just my opinion...

Carter has been in the FC circuit for many years but like every WI batsmen currently he is maturing late and is showing a streak of consistency over the last few years in the regional game and the A Games.

In any case there are not many great performers who are breaking down the doors in the FC circuit. Why not try some who had been consistently average and showing upward trend recently? They surely should be better than the phelotra of Average hit/ Miss Allrounders around whom we are building the side.
