Chickens come home to roost

Dukes 2014-10-22 14:49:03

While I freely admit to not knowing all the details in this WIPA vs players vs WICB bullcrap, there are a few obvious realities going on.
The first and foremost reality in all of this is that none of the three parties acted with high integrity and morality.
When you have a young society that lacks proper systems in place to prevent wholesale teefery, corruption and malfeasance then unless you have a cadre of influential people willing to publically call out those who are bottom feeders then we will be over run by these moral scumbags.

The second thing that jumps out at me is the willful and careless attitude towards the concept of conflict of interest. I run a small non-profit organization and we have a conflict of interest policy that all officers have to sign on to. When multi million dollar businesses in the WI say that they do not have or need such policies to be in place then you know that is an excuse to facilitate teefery, nepotism and corruption. The fact that intelligent people on this board will parrot that we don't need such policies is distressing to anyone who genuinely cares about this region because it seeks to practically institutionalize the malfeasance.

The third thing that is obvious is the lack of a long term strategy by all of the three parties because they are only focused on the here and now.
This whole scenario is truly sad for all who love WI cricket and the region and a bitter pill for all of us to swallow.
My heart weeps for those who gave their all for WI cricket.

That's my biggest issue they fix for NOW only to have the same or similar issues arise time and again. Well said by the way.

EXCELLENT POST ; YOU hit all the right things . The Problem in the Region is that Thieves are allowed to prosper legally .

I am not going to name names but there are people in the Region walking around Free as a Bird , that have yet to answer charges for their Crimes they have committed . CLICO is a classic case in this regard .

distressing to anyone who genuinely cares about this region because

anyone like who?

Larr Chicken Pollo? John Doe? Anandbg? Most of the peeps on this board who live OUTSIDE the region, and most of all Guyanese who look down on the region????

You think they "genuinely" care?????? You think they care at all????

And you think is only Guyana they look down on??????

Lets keep it real, Sideie. That word "genuinely"should be removed.

People who genuinely care are people like Commie who is actually THERE....in the region...and who has to spend half his time here belittling the majority of punks on cc.com who migrated to lands that they could benefit from because those lands were already tailor-made for these blowhards. As my bro says, "any jackass can make it in North America," which is evidenced by the likes of some here who THINK they have made it already. Then they turn around, having made NO CONTRIBUTION to the land they GENUINELY love, and chat a bunch uh puckeries.....and yes, i left hout the "h."

Best regards, and keep up ur good work in the association you lead.

Why does Dukes pontificate so much on these things.

Intl sport is corrupt. The ICC are gangsters ergo the wicb are gangsters with a caribbean flavour.

I don't see Dukes dem saying fellas shouldn't play for the Indian ipl crooks because they don't respect workers rights and love to fix matches.

Even if you were being optimistic how the f is the wicb going to change the nature of a sport which is top down predatory.

Note the ICC eh worried one fart about anything other than players forking up tours and costing them money.

If the Wicb can't control their players thats where it all goes south.

Isn't that attitude pervasive throughout the Caribbean? Due to lax enforcement of laws governing corruption, most in the Caribbean know that they would likely get away with white collar crime so they commit it.

When your parents were disciplining you about something you did wrong and you told them that your friends do the same thing,do you remember what they told you??

FuzzyWuzzy 2014-10-24 07:46:30

In reply to Dukes

Yes. But a better analogy is the boy and girl out screwing down the town and the parent only chastising the girl. For the parent to be credible and effective both needs to be chastised.

Not only 11 plus scholarships. Overage scholarships to students up to the ages of 15 and 16 who had passed second or third year was also introduced.

Dukes, I share your emotional forebodings. Sometime ago, I came to the conclusion that at this stage of my life, I am much better off adopting a more cosmopolitan approach to following cricket rather than sticking to the old tried and tested chauvinistic adherence which had characterised my cricket support since the early 50s.

Like you pointed out, teefry,(without the H) self interest and other malfeasance have destroyed Windies cricket.Like Diogenes the ancient Greek Cynic philosopher, I therefore proudly declare myself "a cricket citizen of the world."
Here Hendeth my disquietude about Windies cricket.

The boy and the girl are both children of the parents, ERGO the parents have EQUAL responsibility for both.
Unlike DonD I was, is and will always be a West Indian (IR)REGARDLESS of where I make a living.
My attitude to the United States and Europe will therefore be quite different to my attitude to things West Indian,ESPECIALLY on a WEST INDIAN CRICKET MESSAGE BOARD!!!!!
If Dick Cheney and the former Governor of Illinois,Blago engage in bad behavior I do not give a flying FCUK!!!!!
Seems to me that your analogy reeks of logic consistent with your moniker!!!!!

This isnt some morality code where you do your best and set an example.

If it was WI would be LAUDED.

Why ?

Because the ICC has still got no formal provisions for industrial relations despite being the guardians of what is probably the worlds oldest team sport. There is no minimum wage in cricket, no universal fair pay or universal collective bargaining or dispute management system.

And that will stay so in the forseeable future. Do you think the NBA or the EPL or MLB would let what happened with WI happen without stepping in and resolving ?

The ICC has no mechanisms with whioch to work and DO NOT want to prejudice a fair system onto other members. Everyone is left to do their own thing.

Make no bones about it, the dialogue and arguments between the WICB and its players are dangerous to the other boards and the ICC in the implication of there being LACK OF CONTROL of the players.

Pakistan simply fires players en masse. India, and the IPL hold no truck for workers rights. England summarily replaces and displaces resources who are placated by having county cricket available, NZ has had major industrial relations issues and its players are paid on par and in some cases slightly higher than WI players.

Australia has had little issue because it pays the best of all Boards not named India and retains a high degree of its players, PLUS it has a working State cricket model, all within a dynamic economy. Dont know much about SA or Bangladesh.

Withdrawal of labour unfortunately is the natural effect of there being no real structure and CBA's which are written with the goal of oneupmanship by one side or the other.

The other boards punish faster and more brutally, or pay better.

Within that context, where the governing body of the sport has done nothing to make things easier for things like that NOT to happen, why on earth do you feel that the WICB is culpable for the failings of an entire sport.

I mention again.

The same Sarwan who whines like a bitch in public about everything, waited 18 months for payment from the IPL and not FICA, his agent, noone could even get an answer on their contract obligations.

He said NOTHING. WHY ? Because he wanted the opportunity to play for the IPL again.

Can you imagine if that was WI ?

Pictures of slaves being beaten would be posted with Sarwan in foetal position along with puff pieces talking about how nasty the WICB is.

Im sorry but I dont see why I should pick a side between two subsidised parties when their benefactors wash their hands and hope for the bigger child to win.

The conflict of interest is the most glaring and shamefull part of this whole fiasco.

In addition to all The points made by Duke and others, this is the phenomenon that most shows the infantile nature of management and leadership in our region.

The worst part is where players, WIPA, Fans, WICB seem to see nothing wrong with that.

Pathetic.

Both are national associations.

If you think the International Basketball Association could say a word that matters to the NBA dream on - same for the English F.A. and UEFA let alone FIFA.

Commie 2014-10-24 10:03:46

In reply to Chrissy

Why are you muddying the waters ?

Within this context, both the NBA and FIBA have known processes for negotiation and actually have free agency rules that parallel each other as well as CBA. They are the governing body for their domains.

The EPL the same.

Take the transfer window. All leagues adhere to it and the connotations for pay are known. All mandated by FIFA.

The ICC leaves everything to the member bodies.

There is no dispute resolution and no CBA facilitation. They have adopted the window for T20 to the benefit of India.

Otherwise...its carry on chaps.

Chrissy 2014-10-24 10:06:32

In reply to Commie

It is you who have muddied the waters.

Commie 2014-10-24 10:10:17

In reply to Chrissy

Any body that governs its game or a subset of its game, is relevant.

The ICC governs a game that runs all year long. No other sport really parallels that as a national sport actually being more prevalent than the club version of the sport.

Thats why there is a crossover with league sport.

And thats why it is relevant to compare systems of governance and intervention.
