BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC): St Vincent's prime minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, is advocating the assembling of a three-member CARICOM panel to help resolve the ongoing contract dispute between West Indies players, their union, WIPA, and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).
In a letter to WICB president Dave Cameron last week, Gonsalves said the current crisis was too serious a matter to be solved by the board alone and suggested the wider engagement of CARICOM.
Gonsalves proposed the panel be comprised of current CARICOM chairman, Antigua's prime minister, Gaston Browne; Grenada's prime minister, Dr Keith Mitchell, and former Jamaica Prime Minister PJ Patterson.

I don't have a problem with that ,
however I seriously doubt that the WICB will go for that. My take is that this will fly in the WICB like a Lead Balloon .
THE WICB IS ALL ABOUT BEING IN THE
GOVERNANCE OF CRICKET IN THE REGION NOTHING
ELSE MATTERS TO THEM . I AM
EAGERLY AWAITING THEM TO PROVE THAT MY
ASSESSMENT
OF THEM IS CORRECT .
I also expect the usual B.S
from the ICC , about Governments getting involved in Cricket . Let me once again emphatically state this :
THE 2007 WORLD CUP IN THE REGION WAS
LARGELY FUNDED BY THE GOVERNMENTS IN THE
REGION SPENDING TAXPAYERS MONEY TO HOST
THE WORLD CUP . I DO NOT RECALL THE ICC AT
THAT JUNCTURE STATING THAT GOVERNMENTS
MUST NOT BE INVOLVED IN CRICKET .
Rather than making asinine threats the ICC
needs to ensure that its Member Boards are
run correctly ; engaging in Good Governance , and ensuring that they do not get embroiled in controversy . Failure
to do this over time will ultimately signal the demise of the ICC .

Intervene? On what grounds?
Does CARICOM make any contribution to the WICB finances?
Instead of trying to score cheap political points the honorable PM should instead focus on the actions of those misguided cricketers in India who have brought shame and disgrace to the Caribbean people.
It would be more in line with his office to condemn in the strongest possible words the irresponsible behavior of the WI players. More so, he and his honorable companions whom he is seeking to involve in this ill conceived venture should publicly say loud and clear, the players involved in the sorry episode are unworthy of representing the WI in the future.
To engage in any discussion with them now is to publicly acknowledge that grounds existed for the steps taken to abort that tour.
We cannot continue to acquiesce to the wishes of under achievers who bring disgrace to the Caribbean people on and off the field.

Let me ask you just some questions :
WHO FACILITATED THE WORST INTERNATIONAL
CRICKET BOARD ON THE PLANET ,AKA THE WICB
IN HOSTING THE 2007 WORLD CUP ???
Btw , the WICB aint own any Stadia in the Region ; has no Police officers ; or Firemen etc . Who the Hell is paying for
that ???

?
I took the liberty of adding the ?
The answer to your question is a flat out 'NO' in my opinion. Caricom is a joke.
An effective CARICOM Should be the one to lay down the Model for WICB..not make recommendations and being dictated to and be bed with a private entity which should be
answerable to them.
But who cares ? like the WICB it is a horse trading cart. Pot and kettle.

Prior to the 2007 Word Cup when the WICB went around the Region begging the Regional Governments to ensure that everything would be in order for the hosting of the World Cup; The Governments of the Region built
new Stadia , Refurbished existing Stadia ,
and did all that was required of them ;
USING TAXPAYERS MONEY .
I stated in this Forum that the Governments of the Region had the WICB over a barrel , and in return they should make the WICB sign a legally binding document stating that the WICB will undergo serious structural changes .
Unfortunately , the Regional Governments
let the WICB off the hook . Last year the
Regional Governments asked the WICB to implement the changes suggested by the famous " PATTERSON REPORT ".
The WICB ignored the Regional Governments request , and instead commissioned the little known " WILKIN REPORT " ; the WICB
ON RECEIVING THAT REPORT ALSO DEEP SIXED
IT .
The gist of what I am stating is that when the Regional Governments had leverage over the WICB , they did not do a blasted thing .
The WICB Cricket Board for decades , has been a Rogue Cricket Board for Decades , due to not only to its colossal Incompetence , but also those in the Region who are afraid of it and the Regional Governments who believe the CRAP that the ICC & THE WICB CONTINUOUSLY UTTER
ABOUT GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE .
The funny thing is that when the Guyana Government took the GCB to Court last year , the ICC & the WICB since they are so freaking powerful should have filed a Amicus Brief on behalf of the GCB .
.

If the WICB was a serious Entity , it would give the Players & the General Public a 5 year development Plan . Doing that would be a yardstick to measure progress or non progress .
OH , SORRY ,THAT CANNOT HAPPEN BECAUSE
THE WICB IS BROKE .IT IS TIME TO
PULL THE PLUG ON THE WICB .
Let me again state that I don't have a problem with the WICB getting money from the Regional Governments .
However , it must undergo very serious structural changes . Not only the WICB must be reformed , the structure of the Regional Boards & the WICB personnel at Factory Road must also undergo changes .
Last but not least , there must be a higher Entity in the Region supervising
the WICB ; because its stewardship of Cricket in the Region has been riddled with Incompetence ; Ineptness ; lack of Good Governance ; its inability to have
Foresight & Vision ; and settle amicably disputes with the Players .
On several occasions it has embarrassed not only itself but the Region . WE need to put and end to all of this colossal embarrassment .The ICC apparently doesn't care about Good Governance .
