HEADLINE: WICB, players meet today

CaribbeanCricket.com 2014-10-31 07:48:30

In another attempt to solve the current impasse, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and its limited overs captain Dwayne Bravo, together with their advisors, will meet today at the Hyatt Regency in Trinidad.

The meeting is being facilitated by prime minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonzales. Bravo flew across to St Vincent to meet with Gonzales on Wednesday and it was agreed that the parties would meet at the Hyatt today.

It is unclear whether president of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), Wavell Hinds will be present since contact with him has proven to be difficult. Bravo did, however, send him a text message. Accompanying Bravo will be Ralph Thorne, the attorney representing the players.

I see more chaos ensuing. You would think the players would sort out their union business b4 meeting with WICB. How you get a lawyer for the players when they got a union. Something not making sense and more confusion is about to ensue. The Captain informing the union head about a meeting and bringing a lawyer representing the players to a meeting with the union head and WICB? Who the WICB go negotiate with? Bravo, the laywer, WIPA, Wavell? What will be binding in such a scenario? Bravo busting up his own union? Interesting. For their sake I hope at a minimum they come out with the right process.

Strange indeed. They need to have a vote in WIPA.

the lawyer is an advisor , who organized the meeting, didn't Cameron told Bravo in India that he only talking to the union?

what right would Bravo have to strike a deal for the broader membership?

You think? But guess why their won't be a vote. Cuz for a vote its all FC cricketers and not the 11 WI team players who go decide. There are more FC cricketers than the WI team players. 90 vs 15. So who go win that vote. That's why the puppet master behind the scene advising Bravo to declare WIPA persona non grata and get a lawyer.

Does anyone have an idea what the agenda is for the meeting? If I was to speculate this meeting is a "save mi skin" meeting and not so much about the impasse

POINT 2014-10-31 11:05:40

The fact that the WICB is meeting with
the Players is a sure sign that the WICB
Coffers are severely depleted .

I have no doubt that if the WICB Coffers were full there would not be any meeting . BTW hanging over the heads of those in the WICB is the 64 million dollars lawsuit by
the BCCI , so in effect , the WICB is under very heavy manners .

Your concerns are very real.

From day one this whole affair was meant to embarrass the leadership of WIPA.

The agenda continues.

Ralph GONSALVES has been around a long time. So you would think the folks at CaribbeanCricket.com would have learnt to spell his name correctly by now.

What a time to meet with the players! A meeting or two early in the India tour would have been about $65M cheaper!

its all a show by WICB to show BCCI and ICC they are "trying."

They are not serious about a solution but to put up a mirage that they too want to a solution.

The fact is they cannot negotiate anything without the Union!!

True and whatever comes out of this would most likely have to get Union approval, why cause the MOU.
And is funny cause the players used to bawl saying they want WIPA to 'talk for dem' Now WIPA talk fuh dem the message was soo messed up.
Oh well.
I just hope at the end of this brukdown. The product of WICricket was better off than it was at the beginning of the demolition.

Bravo and the lawyer have stage a coup, Hinds has been overthrown.

I understood that Cameron and Hinds were on the way to meet with Bravo and the boys on the Tuesday before they call the tour off, but apparently the boys had already made their call.

What bugs me is how the WICB allowed this to happen. There were one ODI and a T20 remaining plus the 3 tests, so WICB should at least rescue the test. Apparently India did not want 2nd rated players, but many of those present were not going to be part of the test team including Captain Bravo. The other include Pollard, Rampaul, Russell, Sammy, Holder, Smith and possibly Johnson. So we are looking at at least 8 players being replaced, with Samuels it 9 regular players. If Ramdin, Young Bravo, Taylor refused to play could these not easily be replaced and would that really be a second rated team.

Finally, why was Bravo and other allowed to call off a tour sort of supported by BCCI, by not accepting a replacement team. And why was the likes of Shiv, Brathwaite, Blackwood, Roache, Edwards, Grabiel and Shillingford, the possible call ups for the test denied the right to earn their match fees for the test series. Bravo was never going to be playing or earning from the test. He is a disgrace to Windies and only cares about dosh for himself.

In reply to notout0WICB fcuked up, pay the $600,000 and continue talking, may be they could get away with paying even half that sum ,for players express a willingness to give back something.

I cannot recall any delegate going to meet with the players on the 20th. It was not on any news outlet. Only read or heard about it on the 20th. WIBC playing games.

Getting tickets and flights out to India takes time, Tuesday was the earliest time they could get out and Bravo knew this, that is why he forced the issue and got the players to pull out. Bravo claim that the response from WIPA and WICB was not satisfactory (to who - Mr Pollard), but they did not allow enough time for WICB to get to the bottom of the issue. I do want get get into naming players, but boy a lot was said at those meeting and I feel sorry for players like Johnson who had to go through this. Bravo and the team grief is with WIPA, this was all about Bravo teaching Hinds a lesson "player power" and degrading WIPA which (he forgot) he chose to represent him, but there are also over 100 other members who were not contacted. How selfish can one get - money is surely the root of all evil.
So now he (Bravo) and the rest of the players and the WIPA and sadly WICB must face the consequences, a $42M bill. WI cricket is not dead, just sick in the hospital, thanks to Bravo and his boys. Well done "just so".

Apparently India did not want 2nd rated players

India rejected that a substitute team with no uncertainty.

Assuming the entire team on tour would have been replaced, and that the WI 'A' team tour in Sri Lanka would have continued, the WI would have had to send a 3rd Eleven - an insult to India!

why was Bravo and other allowed to call off a tour sort of supported by BCCI

The BCCI's efforts to keep the tour alive included actions that the WICB itself refused to do, such as talking to the players directly. The BCCI spared no effort to keep the tour alive, while the WICB was bent on keeping its players "in their place".

It is possible that Bravo and the other T20 stars may have sabotaged the tour to play T20 in South Africa, but the WICB made no attempt to talk to the players directly, which might have led to uncovering ill will by a few, and a solution acceptable to India.

It was either "Play the WICB way" or the highway. Now, US$42M later, hindsight is kicking in, with the WICB shocked into complete verbal and mental paralysis.

The only thing more shocking is that Cameron has neither tendered his resignation, nor was asked.
