Because, maybe it is just me, but I do not see Russell as a test cricketer-either as a batsman or a bowler-any more than I saw Sammy as a test player.
A top order batman withdrew and they replaced him with the bits-n-pieces Russell?
What a joke!
There are many better batsmen, including Carter & Fudadin, left back in the Caribbean who would be more worthy than Russell.
