Cottrell match readiness to be assessed

St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board’s Selection Committee today named Assad Fudadin to the West Indies Test tour to South Africa.

Darren Bravo, who had been offered a contract for the series, wrote to the Chairman of Selectors, Clive Lloyd, and citing personal reasons, requested that he not be considered for selection for the Test series. The 29 year old Fudadin has been named to replace Bravo.

A left handed batsman from Guyana, Fudadin played 3 Tests in 2012 against England and New Zealand.

In addition, the Selection Panel has requested that fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell play for Jamaica in the third round of the Professional Cricket League in order that the selectors have an opportunity to evaluate his match readiness.

Cottrell will therefore not depart the Caribbean with the rest of the squad for South Africa on November 30th.

Cottrell, a left arm fast bowler from Jamaica, recently returned from the West Indies A Team tour of Sri Lanka with a hamstring injury.

Fudadin replaced Bravo because he did well for the A team recently,he did well last fc season, but will he do well against the pacers in SA,Devon Smith may have been a better choice.

The selectors are a little harsh on Edwards, I thought he would been a better choice because of his experience and past performance.

Nice to see the selectors do something for a nice person. I meet this kid Assad Fudadin a few years ago and he was very humble and respectful. I remember that meeting very much because I was congratulating him on a well-played innings. He looks like a hard worker that does not drink and takes his game seriously. I am sure that influence the selectors.

Best of luck Assad Fudadin and make good use of this opportunity.

This is a good selection, Kirk cannot buy a run, let him play PCL.
Fud and Kraigg batted well in the A team, he should be rewarded for it.

Paint, Fuda and Shiv in the same team? Easy money for the scorers.

The Big Pu$$y's efficacy as head selecta is once again evidenced. First Johnson and now Fuda.

Shows how sad that Butt-head was.

Pollo's pride in country should be restored.

In reply to Drapsey Fuda is mistake. Sbould have been a player who could counter the pace - Simmons or even Smith. That said its unfair to say this is a hometown selector move. Fuda did do well for A team while Cottrell did nothing special to distinguish himself from Beaton.

More a case of selectors not being in touch with the cricket.
