Gabriel, Khan give Red Force 1st day honours

The Trinidad and Tobago Red Force took command of their second round Professional Cricket League four-day match against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes thanks to some late strikes by pacer Shannon Gabriel and leg-spinner Imran Khan which saw the hosts slip from 87 for three at lunch to 133 for six when bad light ended play at Warner Park in St Kitts yesterday.

Only 55 overs were possible yesterday and the rain stayed away for the better part of the morning session as the Red Force won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The visitors made one change to the team, which held the Barbados Pride to a draw in the previous round, with Nicholas Pooran coming into the starting line-up, replacing opening batsman Evin Lewis who has a slight injury.

Deonarine in sight of 11th first class ton

WHEN bad light stopped play at 17:02hrs yesterday afternoon, the Guyana Jaguars were comfortably placed on 169 for 3 on the first day in their clash with Windwards Volcanoes in their second round West Indies Cricket Board/Professional Cricket League Regional 4-day encounter at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

This was mainly due to Narsingh Deonarine’s unbeaten 79 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s unbeaten 26, the duo adding 59 runs for their unbroken fourth wicket partnership to date, while Mervin Matthews with his 1 for 14 is the best bowler for the visitors so far.
