I am rather worried about the Aussies right now... While for Indians it would be a news, it would be a real challenge for the Aussies to overcome this situation. Huges played with most of the Aussie players and this would shake anyone.

Cricket_PHD 2014-11-25 14:23:00

Similarly, aint Ahmed Shezad get hit in the head also while batting recently while he was on 176* Not out and was dissmissed hit wicket and could not finish the series also.

Corey anderson bowled him a bouncer and he tried to Pull/hook. Got hit and had a minor skull fracture (depressed fracture of the Zygomatic arch of the skull) in a spot that was not well protected by the helmet!

I know where you are going but you are not going to get any traction since Surya is not around smile

Ewart 2014-11-25 15:04:43

Unless the bowler is pelting, or the wicket is not properly rolled, a good batsman should not get hit.

I played 40 seasons of competitive cricket as an opening bat - without a helmet - and never got hit.

I'm worried for Phil. This looks terminal

Cricket_PHD 2014-11-25 15:15:09

These men were hit playing a shot not ducking or swaying out of the way or wearing it because they were scared or caught of guard. both ahmed Shezad and Phil Hughes got hit trying to Hook/Pull the ball

Well for starters dem already unload a ton of money on CA not to play at the Waca. They were saying first summer a major team playing test cricket is Ozzie and not playing at the Waca.

Exactly, these guys are getting knocked out playing a shot. That delivery to Hughes really looked somewhat innocuous for a bouncer. I know the footage is grainy, but it didn't look like such a menacing delivery.

Devin 2014-11-25 18:23:15

We can handle Johnson

Too many of today's batters try to play the hook shot without getting into position.

Back and across. Back and across.

Other than that you could be in a lot of (painful) trouble.

I am happy you never got hit. However I don't agree with you. I have seen quite a few good batsmen get hit.

I would agree that good technique helps but at any point a misjudgment can happen

moneybrain 2014-11-26 23:35:10

Why? because you kept your EYES on the ball as you did not have a helmet!
Simple dat! I faced Daniel, Clarke, Garner et al without a helmet too! cool

I always thought the helmet was more a hindrance than a help.

It provides false confidence, possibly impairs constant vision of the ball and most likely reduces the reflex action because of the extra weight on the head. Unlike most sports, except, maybe a hockey goalie, the batsman needs quick reflexes, especially when it comes to short pitched balls. Nothing should impede that movement.

The modern batsman seems to have lost the learnt skill of how to avoid the very short rising ball, especially the crucial need to always keep one's eyes on its trajectory.
