It was the 1979 tour to Australia. They had a new tearaway pacer now coming on the scene, and everyone was looking forward to his confrontation with Viv Richards. In one of the ODIs, I think it was the 2nd, he bounced first ball of an over to Viv and was hit hard and high over square leg for 6.
Next ball was outside off, and Viv put that left leg outside off and banged it past mid-on for 4. Rumor was he went to Chappell and asked him how Viv could have played that shot.
Third ball was another bouncer and this time Viv pulled him over mid-wicket fuh 6. Next two balls were scoreless.
Last ball of the over, he pitched up and Viv drove straight back. The bowler tried to take evasive action, but the ball thudded into his ankle. The sound was sickening. Everyone rushed to him lying crumpled on the ground. After about 10 minutes, he had to be stretchered off.
Border wrote in his book that Viv went up to him(Border)and said, "Don't worry Alan; he should be fit and ready for your tour to India coming soon. Juss tell him to keep bouncing to me."
WHO WAS THAT BOWLER?

Yuh sure Spous have the year right? I caln'trecall WI playing any ODIs during their 1979/1980 tour of Australia can you!
I think Len Pascoe...I know he was a hot head and Viv took particular interest in cutting his ass regularly. Pascoe was also genuinely quick
In reply to Oilah
Don't think it was Pascoe.
Was a tall lanky fella. I can't remember his name.
In the match where he scored 153 Rodney hogg got some licks
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
The Question includes these facts
1.Viv hit 2 sixes in a single over from a young tearaway fast bowler in 1 over in an ODI on a specific tour.
2.That same over on the last ball the bowler was injured and had to be stretchered off the field.
My first inclination like Commie was to think of Rodney Hogg and Viv hitting that memorable 153* off 130 balls but lo and behold Viv only hit 1 six in that innings and Hogg bowled his full complement of 10 overs. In addition Hogg batted in the OZ inninga after, scoring a meaningless 3 runs as OZ lost by 80 runs. Why would he be batting after being stretchered off the field earlier.
My conclusion is that the name of the bowler is not Hogg and his name is SPUDS MCKENZIE who is spinning an URBAN LEGEND to make Devin think that Viv is almost as good as Kohli!!!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
In reply to Dukes
There was no 6in the 3rd odi for Viv
he didn't score much in the first

Don't quite get this part of the story!
Why would Viv approach Allan, if this particular incident happened in 1979 when Border had just about made the OZ team.

You should teach your fellow Muddie how to spell "Q-U-I-Z"...Burnham must be turning in his mausoleum

As I thought 1984/85.
My guess would be Simon O'Donnell!
In reply to Dukes
Maybe someone(Commie??) can tell us Kohli's strike rate in ODIs.
I know Viv ended up about 90.
Thanks whomever!
@RMc@
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Kohli's scoring rate is 90 as well
In reply to Dukes
Well..............unless Commie can come up with some good reason, u would have to say, now, Kohli is the GOAT.
No?
Best regards!

That's no reason not to know,I was born after WW1,but I know bout that.

The ODI game now is focussed on increasing batsman sr.
The fielding restrictions, closer boundary lines...all skewed to batsmen.
Put it this way. Hashim Amla has a sr equal to Viv and is going to break the record of fastest to 5000 runs that Kohli took from Viv.
Amla is no Viv.
One lil factoid. Out of his 187 ODI matches Viv only played 33 at home.
I think in this era Viv would average near 70 with a 100 plus sr.
In reply to Commie
On the money.
In reply to Commie and hubert ... and would do so without a helmet.
I enjoy watching ABD, Amla, and of course Kohli.
They are giants in this era and the game is being driven by them.
I am just lucky to have context.
In reply to Commie
Don't forget the smaller boundaries and thicker bats.
I saw Viv's last interview with Tony Cozier and he said, "With bats they have today, the boundaries should be 75-100 yards."
In reply to Commie
EXCELLENT points all-round, and great conclusion in quote..
