Ok Kareem, Shaq and Wilt are the top 3 followed by Russ and Dream. If I have to choose one I'd go Kareem

1) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
2) Wilt Chamberlin
3) Bill Russell
4) Moses "fo-fo-fo" Malone

imusic 2015-01-29 15:27:37

Bill Walton needs to be on that list

Certainly ahead of Ewing....WTF was that about?? confused confused

Tryangle 2015-01-29 15:35:08

I like Ewing myself, but he can't sniff a Top 5 spot by any measurement.

Kareem for me. Wilt #2.

SpudsMcKenzie 2015-01-29 15:35:49

I ain know who was the greatest, but Hakeem, Da Dream, was the best to watch.

What he did to Robinson and Shaq, i think it was 1994, was MAGIC!

Regards!

StumpCam 2015-01-29 15:41:17

Kareem wink

Commie 2015-01-29 15:44:52

In reply to SpudsMcKenzie

Yep...Hakeem was a Dream to watch.

Tryangle 2015-01-29 15:47:29

In reply to SpudsMcKenzie

Well, technically, the MAGIC were crushed by Hakeem, but point taken. big grin

cricket_jumbie 2015-01-29 16:18:50

I'll go out on a limb and say that, skill-wise, Olajawon was the best of all!!! No one even comes close!!

If NBA rings are the measure of greatness, then the likes of Walt, Jabbar and Shaq nip him.

On pure stats, Chamberlain leads the pack. I have never seen Walt play (unlike Spuds and Imusic) but from all accounts, he was not as athletic and skillful as Akeem. I may hold some bias for the Phi Slamma Jamma frat brother as I was fortunate to see him play in college and in the pros.

imusic 2015-01-29 17:36:23

In reply to cricket_jumbie

Pure stats and other categories, Jabbar is king

TOP 10 GREATEST NBA CENTERS OF ALL TIME

U left Elvin Hayes off the list.

That must have been during the time you took that sabbatical to Madras to trace back your roots. cool

jahmekyah 2015-01-29 17:59:48

Most i have not seen played, but just on athletic skills alone
Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson top the list

Patrick Ewing doesn't belong

Breds, when Kareem beats dis den yuh could tork

Seriously though, you are correct wrt Jabbar and the stats. However, one must consider how Walt dominated the centers he played against. Also, you cannot ignore the 100. No one has been able to achieve that since.

Moses “Freight Train” Malone was one of the best in his time.

Not a big man compared to other centers, but he kept coming at you.

Played power forward most of his career, missing is Wes Unseld

JohnDoe 2015-01-29 19:57:44

To me the debate should 'center' around Russel, Wilt and Kareem.

Hakeem was not than great in college, Sam Bowie, Ralph Sampson . By the way the Breast of the east destroy Hakeem in the finals of the NCAA

Timmy plays mainly power forward. No wonder you got so excited over the Raptors after two games. smile

tc1 2015-01-29 20:02:47

I agreed with u,I would add Nate Thurmond . At 6-7 or 8 the baby bull destroy many guys -Wes Unseld

You remember that? lol lol lol

I did not see Wilt and Russell play

I have a bias for physical players, but I will give Kareem his dues base on numbers

My personal favorites would be Hakeem and Moses

LOL - Moses commanded and the Sixers delivered, well almost on the 4-4-4 promise. That particular 76ers team could stand pound for pound with any of the all-time great NBA Championship teams!

Mo cheeks, Andrew toney, bobby Jones, Dr j and moses.

Russell...

Reinvented the game...

1) Shot blocking to instill fear
2) Shot blocking to start fast breaks
3) Rebounding became an important statistic in his time
4) Rebounding to start fast breaks
5) Winner
Two NCAA Championships with the San Francisco Dons
One Olympic gold medal, 1956 Olympics
Eleven NBA Championships

Forgot Dawkins. Bad ass player.

JoeGrine 2015-01-31 18:27:14

Dawkins was not on the winning team, he was traded to make way for Moses. "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins was a baaaad man, just couldn't get pass Parrish and the Celtics.

That 76ers team and the winning Houston team with Hakeem "the Dream" and Clyde "the Glide" are my two favorite winning teams.

Bill Russell on being asked by a reporter on how he thought he would fare vs Kareem Abdul jabbar.

"Young man, you have the question backwards"

Commie 2015-02-01 13:00:09

In reply to Trinidave

All bias aside its not even close. Wilt would crush todays centers even.

He is clearly the best and arguably the GOAT along with MJ.
