I don't believe that it is about who is the Coach of the Team ; it is about how much power & control he will be granted .

It is also about whether Cameron & the
Board are willing to do what needs to be done to raise the standard of Cricket in the Region , and ultimately the competitiveness
of our Players in the International Arena .

In this Forum I am on record stating that Phil Simmons would be very stupid to accept the job ; when in Ireland he has & will have more power and Clout in the Ireland setup .

I invite all hear to google the Ireland
Cricket Board , you will see why their Team is very competitive . Also check out
the number of Clubs that Play Cricket there .

Take a look at the number of Sponsors they have ; in comparison to the number that WE have in the Region . I am very sure Simmons is going to get an increase in his salary after the World Cup .

Man you are talking complete rubbish.
It is true that cricket is gaining in popularity in
ireland but it is a minority sport.
Soccer, Gaelic football, golf, rugby union,
Are far ahead of it. It is not even played or
watched by the majority of the country.
There are about 100 cricket clubs most of which are
a very poor standard, I mean really poor.
I know because I'm irish and have played.
The reason ireland are doing ok is the excellent
people in charge of Cricket Ireland and the ethos
of hard work of players, coaches and admin.

You talk about sponsorship, they get breadcrumbs
Compared to the other sports.
Also English cricket won't allow to get test status
because they're content to steal our best guys.
Phil Simmons would be insane not to take the Windies job.
It would be like the manager of Accrington Stanley
refusing the chance to manage Liverpool FC

On this I agree.

FYI the point I am making is that they have more Sponsors than the WICB has , despite what you have stated .

The gist of what I am saying is that Cricket is the only Sport in the Region were Internationally our Players are referred as THE WEST INDIES TEAM . That being the case
I expect that the WICB should have more Sponsors than it currently has .

It is quite possible that its penchant for being in the Headlines for the wrong reasons , may be why it cannot get Regional Sponsors .

His expression after Ireland hit the winning runs against WI said it all.
His bank account balance may have increased but his sanity & overall health will take a hit.

Imagine if Ireland had Morgan & Rankin available, yes the former is in poor form but Ireland could be stronger, even add Murtagh to that list.

Is he a better fit than Singh, yes.

The first crisis under Singh would no doubt be his own faul because he played for India or something.

The Coach can only do so much, it's the administration that needs help.

Nonsense. You don't know what you are talking about. Ireland's previous major sponsor was RSA Insurance and they were, to their credit, very generous as the then-CEO is a cricket fan and his children play club cricket. The deal ran out at the end of 2014 and was not renewed as the RSA parent company in London discovered a £200m hole in the balance sheet of its Irish branch which resulted in the CEO and two other senior executives in the Irish operation being fired. Cricket Ireland have not yet been able to find a new sponsor despite knowing for more than a year in advance that the RSA deal was not going to be renewed. The deal with Tourism Ireland is only for the World Cup so that they can capitalise on the global exposure that the national team is receiving. The largest domestic league, the Leinster League, has no main sponsor as RSA were the sole sponsors. The new semi-pro Provincial Competition, which is awaiting approval of first-class status, is sponsored by one of Dennis O'Brien's media companies.

It's the income earned from Ireland qualifying for major ICC tournaments since 2007 that is funding the expansion of the game.

Agree with your points. Cricket Ireland has a very clear vision and is professionally run.

The thing I find most remarkable is the dedication of mostly unpaid volunteers who spend countless hours every year trying to spread the game.

At this point it should be obvious that coaching is not the problem.

Would be a bad move for big Phil... no chance of doing with the West Indies what he did with Ireland.
