HEADLINE: Time running out for Powell

CaribbeanCricket.com 2015-03-25 07:52:45

IN normal circumstances, Kieran Powell might have been with the West Indies World Cup team in Australia and New Zealand, as he had been on the tour of New Zealand just over a year earlier.

Applied to West Indies cricket, normal is not an adjective that immediately springs to mind.

An ocean away, the tall, elegant left-handed opener from Nevis, at 26 in the prime of a sportsman’s life, was in Sri Lanka, turning out for the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club in the Premier League.

According to his father, Carlisle Powell, a former West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) director, it is an arrangement developed out of his friendship with the legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitheran, the Tamil Union’s most illustrious player, and brokered by his manager Emma Everett, who also represents his former teammates Dwayne Bravo and Denesh Ramdin and Sir Richie Richardson, now West Indies team manager.

WE have to start with an axiom in West Indies Cricket , the Regional Cricket Boards
& the WICB have more power than GOD .

If any Cricketer runs afoul of any Member of
these Boards ; it is very likely that their
Cricket Career is doomed . I firmly believe that Powell some how has angered some Official or Officials in the Leeward Islands
Cricket Board .

My understanding is that he wrote a letter
to the WICB , not the Leeward Islands Cricket Board , regarding his situation .
However , I believe that Powell was unaware that his appeal was falling of deaf ears .

The WICB is never ever going to side with
any Player , whose Territorial Board has
taken a decision on a Player , regardless
of whether that Player has a valid case or not .

This is standard operating procedure for
the MIMIC MEN who are in control of Cricket in the Region . At some point
Powell came to that realization , and decided to play Cricket in a Country thousands of miles away from the Region .

For many years the Territorial Boards &
the WICB have ruled Cricket in the Region
not only with an Iron Fist , but steeped in 19th century thinking . Frankly it is that asinine thinking why the WICB is
perhaps facing a lawsuit of 42 million dollars .

I seriously doubt that Cozier is going to get to the bottom of this , because there
exists a Symbiotic Relationship between
those who are in the governance of Cricket
in the Region & those who are Sports Journalists .

The Sports Journalists in the Region by being continuously Allies of those in the
governance of Cricket in the Region have
helped in creating THE MONSTERS IN THE

REGION WHO ARE IN THE GOVERNANCE OF

CRICKET WHO ARE ANSWERABLE TO NO ONE IN

THE WORLD .

Not even the International Cricket Cabal ,
aka the ICC , it has allowed the WICB to
become A ROGUE CRICKET BOARD .

Modern technology is available for Cozier
to speak personally with Powell , however
Powell may not open up because , he may face
further retaliation .

I however do not believe that Cozier has the testicular fortitude to pursue this Story ,
but then I honestly do not believe ANY
SPORTS JOURNALISTS IN THE REGION WILL DO

THAT .

Think it's common knowledge that WICB is crap.....but then so are the Players themslves, and the players unioin a complete joke.

Seriously you need to take a 'chill pill' or your going to end up walking the beach wearing a sandwich-board stating 'The end of the world is nigh due to WICB' and be institutionalised wink

btw....Powell would probably be openning with Braithwaite against Eng and Aus if he was playing regional cricket...he has NO competition for a start!

The bad news is Powell and the WICB are still at odds. The good news is, his stint in England this summer should improve his technique against swing bowling. Let us hope the two sides eventually resolve their differences.

I agree the stint in Sri Lanka, plus going over to England should help him. I hope when he's ready to return he has improved so much to replace whoever is there in the starting position
Plus will they be fair and even ive him a chance to prove his fitness?
So we will wait and see
One thing though if he improves and get over his technical flaws he should be able to get a look in and what happens on the field should be the only talking point on whether he deserves a look in.

he will be back next year latest

Powell, become a Bajan citizen and you're in. A well known Bajan cricket writer and commentator will have nice things to say about you, and will find every reason you should be included in the squad with immediate effect.

what has powell done since he was last in the team..

A team tour should be the closest he getting... but Brian Charles Powell done turn down one of that

WICFan 2015-03-25 12:53:31

Playing in Sri Lanka & England will do him no harm, the WICB and Powell need to sit down with each other and talk this out.

I didn't say to pick for test right now

I meant Simmo should bring back from WI cricket wilderness....de cupboard too empty to lose a talent like Powell at 26

don1 2015-03-25 13:13:13

I don't know the details but this self imposed exile seems to be doing him no good.

Powell should have been the next West Indies opener, but turning down all these offers including CPL seems counterproductive.

Samules played First Class cricket during his come back and forced his way in. KP gave up IPL to play County Cricket trying to get back on the England squad. Why would Powell turn down everything including the CPL? When his spot is there for thr taking?

openning 2015-03-25 13:18:12

Why am I hearing?
Where is Powell's Union or rep, if he has a problem with the board?
Does he also have problems with the LICA and CPL, seeing he not part of their squad?

POINT 2015-03-25 13:20:02

Like I stated in an earlier thread ; here on Earth , the Regional Boards & the WICB , are
accountable to no One , and therefore have more power than God . This aint no Joke .

It is evident to me that someone in the Leeward Islands has a beef with Powell ,
and as a result Powell cannot play Cricket in the Region . The WICB is not going to demand that he plays .

When I state in this Forum that all the power in Regional Cricket resides with the Presidents & Deputies of the Regional Boards ; people think that perhaps I was
making a joke , but I am not .

That being the case , Phil Simmons is powerless to bring back Powell . My take is that Powell cannot come back into West Indies Cricket until someone or some Leeward Islands Cricket Board agrees that
he should return .

I find it very interesting that Cozier did not talk to persons on the Leeward Islands
Cricket Board , that in my opinion is what
REAL Journalists would do .

I find it funny that you are unaware that
WIPA is now a part of the WICB . This is
precisely why I stated weeks ago that the
Senior Players need to opt out of WIPA &
get collective representation elsewhere ,
I was serious then as I am now .

Cameron & Hinds engineered a Coup in WIPA , that benefits the WICB , this is why they were both handily reelected . I also stated
that by the end of the year the Senior Players are going to be gone .

Cozier is only tinkering around the edges
regarding Powell , time will tell whether
he or any other Sports Journalists has the
testicular fortitude to delve deeply into the Powell case , my money says none of them aint going to do that .

Currently all the people who are critical of the WICB , are not Sports Journalists .
This confirms my belief that in the Region there are no real Sports Journalists .

You are underestimating WICB.

What matchstick said is right. WICB will say you are not too big than WI cricket and you rejected our selection to A team.

Powell better improve really well to come back to the FC cricket and have a Huuuuuuge season and then they might consider him.

stroke 2015-03-25 14:45:22

After all the shenanigans from the WICB and WIPA and Regional Boards and their warlords we are still yielding the same poor results on the field of play...I concur with Point on this one - someone is messing around with Powell. the West Indies opening pair for the future should be Braithwaithe and Powell...maybe the new coach if he is allowed to will try to make this happen eventually.

He has a problem with Pybus - get rid of him and Powell will be back.

Powell has too much talent to sacrifice him for Pybus.

I mentioned this on another thread. Who is advising this youth? Ok so you opt out of the SUper 50, the PCL, the CPL. So the next time you have a regional tournament after the CPL is November. So basically he may well be ineligible for selection for this year. A whole year gone. Yes he is only 25 plus so he has some time but a sportsman's career is very short in terms of lifetime. Unless he gets selected for an A Team, I am not sure how he will get back to the senior team until next year.

Once you have excused yourself from the team you must have a plan to get back in. Now forget all that happened with Pybus and the non-selection for the A Team, Kieran should have been willing to join any team for the Super 50/PCL and knock down the door to his return. I am a big Powell Fan from long time but with an international average of 27.000 he is doing himself no favors with this prolonged course of inaction.

Powell maybe looking for a t 20 contract in SL, Pakistan or Bangladesh, because he is not willing to fight for his spot in the West Indies team.

I think the Sri Lanka and England stint would be better for him than returning to windies colour. Powell when playing well is really good to watch, but I think he needs some other environment to really harness himself. Him and Lil Bravo usually get starts but fail to push on. Maybe failing to concentrate for long? Who knows. Once Powell overcomes that he should be good to go.

It sounds to me that his stint in England in the summer may well be as a Kolpak....

EDIT: I've looked thru the county lists, and there's no Powell there, so he must be playing league cricket with Halliwell and ponderiver, and while that's good exercise for our friends, I'm not sure if that level of cricket is better than PCL.
