for first test against England:
Dev Smith - based in performance in domestic competition this yr
KB - record speaks for itself
Bravo - based on test record
Samuels - based on test recrd
Shiv - still the best test batsman in the WI
Ramdin - captain and best wicket keeper in the region
Holder - allrounder, is a hard worker and is also a good batsman
Permaul - based in performance in domestic competition this yr
Taylor - based on experience and was our best in the WC
Roach - our fastest and must play if fit
Bishoo - based in performance in domestic competition this yr
Leon Johnson 12th man - would have preferred to see him instead of Smith but Smith has earned his place for the first test

Five batsmen wouldn't get enough runs against associate teams....Bishoo/Permaul if picked will prove once and for all that picking players on form in such a weak competition is not the way to go

need 6 batsman. Blackwood performed well last test - he is in possession stick with him even though his form is poor. Play one spinner.
If you want a chance of winning a single Test then go with experience and stop this crap about trying youngsters without apprenticeship
By all means pick them but let them hang around the atmosphere and stop wetting themselves when they face up to intl bowlers

2 changes:
Johnson for Devon Smith
Benn for Permaul
In reply to Master_Blaster
Recently everytime you pick a spinner with Benn he outbowls them.
It could very well be that they go after Benn and lose wickets after the spinner at the other end is frustrating them. Bowlers hunt in pairs...I say Benn and Bishoo.

Bravo
Samuels
Shiv
Blackwood/Johnson
Ramdin
Holder
Taylor
Permaul
Bishoo
Roach is still showing that he is not 100% fit plus I would still have cotrell around, Benn showing inconsistency I would leave him out. England doesn't play spin well so I would do with the twin spin plus I have samuels and blackwood

and we can use bravo to bowl a little medium if needed because he has done it in the pass already
Our wicket-keeper needs to bat at 6 if we want to start winning matches.

What did Gabriel do to be in this team the didn't perform in the just concluded first class tournament Richards even do much better than him.
In reply to Master_Blaster
You cant select Permaul based on his work this year, he was probably the 4th best spinner on display. So you ,ust be thinking about his consistent production over the years.
I would leave Permaul out and go with Gabriel. If you need two spinners, Bishoo and Benn.

Playing Ramdin (any keeper in WI) at 6 and Holder (based on couple of ODI's) at 7 ......and WI would struggle to score 300 against any test nation. In fact if it wasn't on a FLAT track they'd struggle to put 300 up against Ireland.
Not sure how roach gets to be in the squad given his performances at the WC
In the fast bowling department, Taylor is a given.
Who then to partner him?
Not Roach for reasons given above
Not Gabriel given his average performances this FC season
Not Rampaul as he's played no FC cricket at all recently
That really leaves Cotterell and Holder. Of the two, Cotterell probably should get the nod but Holder brings more to the team (can also bat)
As for spinners, even though he was average at best during the WC, Benn is probably still the best eligible to play.
Might be worthwhile giving Bishoo a shot given England's record against wrist spin
Problem with Bishoo is he doesn't really have a googly

Holder made a 50 in his 1st test match.
He has the technique to play a long supporting role at #6...of course one of the top batsmen is expected to lead
Even playing with eleven frontline batsmen...they will still struggle to make 300
