Dwayne Bravo considers Test return under Simmo

Narper 2015-03-28 19:52:17

According to Bravo, in an interview yesterday, “it is a good fit. I think it’s the best fit. I think it should have happened a long time ago but nothing happens before its time.

Phil is a very good coach. You can see what he has done to Ireland cricket, the Irish guys respect him a lot.

“Now it’s official that Simmons is going to be the coach, definitely maybe 2016 I’ll try to get back involved in the longer format and then see how it goes.”

The problem is not the coaching. WI cricket players has dropped in quality and we don't produce quality players as we did in the past.

Our so called top regional players do well regionally when playing against players of poor standards but they are easily exposed when playing internationally

Depends on how you measure quality. The West Indies have as much talented players as any other nation, but they lack commitment and with that the desire to apply themselves to and for something bigger than themselves.

Scar 2015-03-29 10:17:00

The Irish respected Simmo but those WI players always griping about coach this or that? See that coming out of and successful cricket nation?
Besides Bravo goin have to be selected first and I dont see that happening as younger and less oft injured players get in the mix.

Larr Pullo 2015-03-29 10:30:31

Please stay away. Play IPL, make Bollywood videos and make your money. Now because it's a coach from Trinidad you talking about making yourself available. What a laugh!!!

So far Ramnarine, Bravo and Alvin Corneal all endorse Phil.

Support rolling in.

Narper 2015-03-29 11:13:56

Also endorsing Simmons’ appointment was fellow all-rounder Pollard who, like Bravo, has not been selected on the WI ODI team since the India tour saga.

“He has done well for Ireland,” Pollard said. “He has been successful in Ireland. (I) want to wish him all the best when he comes to the Caribbean. I’m sure he wants to do well so I wish him all the success.”

sunfish 2015-03-29 11:41:46

Why does Mr Bravo think he is qualified to walk into a West Indies test team?

DIEHARD 2015-03-29 12:15:59

Because he's the best All rounder we've produced in the past 20 years. Bar none

He has a better record among all the allrounders WI has tried for years...

I agree with you here please stay retired Mr. Bravo, play your IPL and whatever T20 you choose, and I too suspect we are hearing this because the Coach is Trini

When you respond to people on this board try to understand their jingoistic attitude. Facts are beyond them. They will prefer, and promote, any mediocre player so that the player or people they dislike can be thrown to the wind. These 5.something million people amaze me. But this attitude is more so prevalent and scattered among the hundreds of thousands in the perceived "oppressed" isles.

Scar 2015-03-29 13:02:49

That maybe so but Bravos pace and batting has fallen off lowering his stock like Blackbery. Still useful but other options are being introduced to the market.

Just as Lara I gave been disappointed in Bravos inability to produce the 10 to 15 tons that was expected of him in his career.

People do it all the time. The only problem is that the friends disappear when the money runs out.

... but it is ... the lack of good coaching at the U10, U13 etc., levels is the problem.

The fact that we are competetive and even ahead of other countries up to the under 19 level points to some other reason.

natty_forever 2015-03-30 16:25:44

In reply to Larr Pullo... are we?

Would be interesting if this was 3 or 4 day cricket as against a 30 over contest.

Also, is this

competitive and even ahead of other countries up to the under 19 level
as a consequence of WICB development programs or good school programs if what you say is in truth fact.

U19 cricket

natty_forever 2015-03-30 16:53:47

In reply to Commie... how often did that happen? Is that the norm since 1995?

Seems one can get away with poor techniques at these levels.

Commie 2015-03-30 16:55:34

In reply to natty_forever

Its been consistently so.

The issue is simple. Aussie U19 players go into grade cricket and then fc cricket. WI U19 players go home to wonder whether they can get a pick in their regional teams.

The other teams young players are not superior, but they do develop and improve.

You will see that in the upcoming youth WC. Already the Aussies, SA, Bang, India and England have taken a liking to U19 cricket. They are playing more matches and preparing a lot more.

As long as it was not largely competitive WI were having a good time. Last WC was not good for WI and coming WC would show if the Statement is true or Should we change the U19 to U15 in the statement

The Aussie Grade cricket is competitive and develops them. Even WI FC cricket cannot do that.

A Aussie player who comes into International cricket and fails is able to go back to FC cricket and come lot more equipped. An ordinary ball hitter Warner comes into T20 Limelight from nowhere and in 3 years he is moulded into a good Test cricketer. An Ordinary Hitter, Symmonds comes into ODI cricket and was able to cement his place in the Aussie Test team for a good period. We then have Smith who went back after failure and in 2 years comes back as a captain and much improved player.

I will just say Ganga and Devon. You can easily wipe out others as Lazy individuals. These guys had commitment, Dedication and good basic technique. But the system over 10-15 years still could not develop them into half decent players. That is the difference.
