Look out for an Anderson Cummins-like boycott when they reach the Mecca.

Angel replaces Benn.

West Indies selectors have made one change for 2nd Test. Fast bowler Shannon Gabriel replaces Sulieman Benn 14-man squad

Seechy 2015-04-18 17:46:08

Four Quicks can unsettle the British. But is he the right pacer?- his pace is decent. But is he another Patrick Patterson. cool

If they put Gabriel in for Benn in Grenada I don't blame Admin fuh self-imposed exile.

I could of swear Gabriel was in ANU.
Either way don't see Gabriel playing. The XI I think would just have Benn being replaced by Bishop.
Remember you don't change a winning team. Lol

but Benn has been really ineffective no? I think maybe I can do a better job...

winning team?
thought it was a draw

Norm 2015-04-18 18:48:41

Not a bad change.

Gabriel performed well in his last Test-and-a-half appearances. I t was a bit surprising to see him omitted for the first Test.

I still think Permaul was more deserving of a spot in the squad than Bishoo, but Benn's omission increases Bishoo's chances of making the final XI.

dale_staple 2015-04-18 18:58:05

That was inevitable. But this is where I think Lloyd and them will miss a trick. England is going to bring in Moeen Ali (if fit) as a spinning variety. So unless Gabriel is being brought in as cover for Roach (who was not looking so fit) i see no reason for Bishoo not playing. If the wicket is gonna be flat as North Sound, or even a little more lively, I think a spinner is a better pick than four of the same type of bowler. But knowing Lloyd and his fear of spinners, he will play a four prong even when we do not have four quality bowlers.

i dont see Gabriel as a decent replacement for Benn but I just heard it announced

..maybe they see something in the pitch that we dont

boom...

THats actually how I feel too mate.

I was expecting to hear Bishoos name

and Gabriel for Roach makes more sense...Roach is not his best all tournament

Commie 2015-04-18 20:27:40

A half fit Roach is still better than Gabriel.

anthonyp 2015-04-18 20:38:03

Ah one foot Roach is better than Gabriel... Roach pace improving.. only time before he's back to his best

methodic 2015-04-18 20:44:43

I have to watch this guy again because I don't know what they see in Gabriel

dale_staple 2015-04-18 20:46:42

In reply to methodic

I do not know either. He is quickish yes. But he bowls as straight as an arrow and neither swings the ball nor moves it off the seam.

methodic 2015-04-18 20:58:39

In reply to dale_staple

yes he is quickish but he doesn't bowl a quick spell and he falls into mid eighties by his second spell

True. Hence is selection is a surprise to me. I figured they would blood one of the younger more promising quicks.

TheTrail 2015-04-18 21:12:04

Roach had to leave the field for an extensive period during the first innings. Did u watch the game or not. He is not 100% fit.

TheTrail 2015-04-18 21:34:40

In reply to dale_staple

Who are you to know if he is a 100% fit or not?

methodic 2015-04-18 21:55:04

In reply to TheTrail

when last was Roach fully fit?

powen001 2015-04-18 22:16:11

In reply to TheTrail

Park the emotion..

I know you know the truth..

Roach is not 100%...as most cricketers would play with barely 65% efficiency but when it comes to bowlers in particular...managing them is always best.

Roach is not at his lethal best- plain for all to see.

calm down Trail,
I think he should be pull until he back healthy, I know he your hommie, u could placed MC in the slot.

Bishoo will get the start then! in all honesty Benn was poor in that first test, without him we probably could have won the match.

GT 2015-04-19 11:10:42

In reply to NormBishoo is the water boy for this series for the OZ series Permaul will get his turn to carry water Lloyd will stick to his motto never again will he ever play a spinner

Pacy 2015-04-19 11:29:55

Bishoo should be the direct replacement for Benn. If we lean towards Pace it has to be Carlos Brathwaite.

Wally-1 2015-04-19 12:27:04

i'm not impressed with gabriel, he does nothing with the ball and doesn't look like a cricketer.

Pacy 2015-04-19 12:50:43

In reply to Wally-1

True. He dosent look like taking wickets either.

Scar 2015-04-20 00:31:46

So even up replacement, a wicket or two after giving up too many runs and he cant bat just like Benn big grin

Stilbatn 2015-04-20 05:48:17

In reply to dale_staple

Clive lloyd and I may add the other selectors do not select the the playing X1--they have selected the 14 players that are in the squad,it is then left to the coach, captain and possibly manager to select the playing X1 redface redface

natty_forever 2015-04-20 08:43:55

In reply to TheTrail... that's why he not fit ... only 5 wickets? If he was fit he would have taken 10.

big grin

nissan 2015-04-20 09:19:53

Maybe Benn would have done better if he had had the Windies' batsmen to bowl at....

Devin 2015-04-20 09:48:06

Go look at Roach's wickets in the first innings, they pretty much all came from nothing deliveries. The same way Larr says Bishoo takes wickets because of luck, well, that was the case with Roach.

moneybrain 2015-04-20 09:59:30

In reply to Devin

The key questions regarding Bishoo are:

1 is he consistent in being able to achieve a decent length and line---many leggies are not?

2 has he learned the googly and top spinner among other variations? cool

Why is Deo not being given loads of development help to bowl his Off spin and play as a spinner batting at 7 or 8?????

Devin 2015-04-20 11:38:46

In reply to moneybrain

Deo is a complete waste of time man, come on. Leggies generally bowl one garbage delivery per over. Bishoo has the variety, it's whether he's developed the confidence to dip in to his bag of tricks.
