To date, maybe only Gayle comes close in terms of performances. Marlon has flattered to deceive. But Sarwan had it all. Ever since that 80 odd against Pakistan, i have been impressed with Ronnie. Its a crying shame what happened to Sarwan. I fear the same may happen to young Darren. I hope he can be rescued.

Sarwan was the best of our modern batsmen
In reply to dale_staple
Right up there. I never figured how the admin didn't help make him into a better cricketer.
With a little gym work, this guy had to skills to be a 47 to 50 plus avg test player.
Whatever blame Ronnie has to bear..the poor structure of our cricket was exposed by losing him.
Crazy.
Bad man management
In reply to Runs
Horrible management. I think the Guyanese crew can shed some more light on the debacle. Chrissy may also have some inside information i think. But it was a shame what has happened to Ronnie. I mean if our batsmen played to potential imagine this line up:
Gayle
Devon
Darren Bravo
Sarwan
Samuels
Dwayne Bravo
Ramdin
Holder
Taylor
Roach
Whoever else

Sars was a victim of the note writers management style..
Bat nah...nah talk.
In what way was Sarwan the best of our modern cricketers?
Here is a man, who was dropped when he was the vice captain, the same fellow who show up unfit, the same person who would fight to maintain his position.
If SarwN had balls and was strong like Gayle, he would be playing IPL and other T 20, and be a leader on this present Squad
Sarwan is a pussy.
True true.
In reply to dale_staple
Loved watching him bat. Him and Lara made me
a Windies fan
In reply to Runs
I agree. Ronnie managed himself and his body badly.
as of right now...Kraigg,Jason and Blackwood has shown they are mentally stronger than that entire batting line with the exception of Gayle

If by replying "true true" to the above quote, are you saying it is true in its entirety ? If not, what portion is true and which is not true?
Sarwan follow bad company and thus is responsible for his own demise.
Lesson is, don't follow bad company, and choose your friends wisely.
What did one hunter say to the other hunter when being chased by a very pissed off grizzly bear? "I don't have to outrun the bear, I only have to outrun YOU!"

Isn't it a bit too early to make such a call?
Mentally stronger than Shiv? What are YOU smoking.
In reply to dale_staple
That was before Chrissy decided to adopt him.
On a serious note...
Sarwan was always on a path to SELF destruct.
I gave up on him when as Captain of the World Revered West Indies, he went out for pitch inspection after a rain stoppage at Sabina Park clad in his wife-beater and sandals while alongside him his counterpart Strauss was proudly sporting Mother England's official team blazer.
In reply to Runs
Dale Staple's batting lineup did not include Shiv.....so what are YOU smoking?
And i clearly stated as of right now....again...what are you smoking?
In reply to dale_staple
When did the decline begin ? He only has himself and those who gave him ram goat advice to blame.
Was given numerous chances and even given leadership prematurely. Very Good batsman that just lost it for Guyana and West Indies. Can't blame administrators at all.
Does Sarwan still have one last hurrah left?

footsteps
Blame Ronnie and Gibbo
looking at clips of Ronnie, I forgot how good he was...
In reply to Curtis
He did too.
In reply to dale_staple
he was our laziest too
In reply to dale_staple
I've always said that. Best after Lara, easily a guy that should be averaging 50. His work ethic wasn't great tho, but he sure can freaking bat
In reply to analyst-kid
How do you deduce that? Mentally strong without the runs on the board? Kraigg has now played 18 tests which is a good sample to judge on and yet he averages 30 something. Come back when he breaks the 40 and we can talk.
He is a good prospect but not ready for those accolades yet...
In reply to dale_staple
Sarwan stopped consistently making the WI team since 2009
The term modern is being exhausted there i would think.
In reply to dale_staple
and that is our problem. Sarwan under achieved big time but he is the best debutant since 2000.
In reply to Bigzinc
You answered part of it here, but what is meant by "Modern"?
Sars played with both Lara and Hooper - are they included in this modern era?
Or is "modern" after Lara and Hooper?
Was Sars better than Lara and Hooper? Is that what is being implied?
Ntini and Pollock always rated the guy.Would compulsively pull early on giving you a chance but after that a really difficult dude to get out.
Really good player , managed really poorly. If he was in a better setup I imagine he would have averaged in the 47-50 range.
In reply to dale_staple
if you define "modern" as WI batsmen making their debut after the millennium started (1/1/2000) I would agree with you.
If we not careful Darren Bravo next.
Seem to have Sars like temparament
In reply to bobby
No one in their right mind would compare sarwan with lara. Sars was better than hoops. Sarwan is the best to have debuted since 2000.
In reply to Bigzinc
WTF...you actually slipped that in.
Im a sars fan too..but its crazier than a wingbat on steroids, to even contemplate the above.
We can only about hoops as a Lara competitor who gave away his wicket too much
Comparing any other recent WI batsmen to Hoops is blasphemy.
In reply to Tagwa1
looking good aint good enough. Hoops looked way way better than Shiv but no comparison in class. I am a huge Hoops fan since under 19 days but he is what he is.
