HEADLINE: Coach Simmons opens door for IPL quintet

West Indies coach Phil Simmons has opened the door for Dwayne Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard to return to the Test team, stating his intention to meet them on their return from the IPL.

Bravo and Lendl Simmons had announced their Test retirements, while Pollard took an "indefinite break" from first-class cricket earlier this year. Russell indicated he was not physically capable of playing the long form and Narine has been sidelined due to questions about his bowling action.

However Phil Simmons, who was appointed coach in March and had a sturdy result in the home series against England, is eager to see if he can encourage a better relationship between the West Indies team and the region's IPL participants.

Before his departure for the IPL, Bravo had suggested he would like to return to the Test team.

"Obviously everybody wants to see those guys playing Test cricket for the West Indies because they are certainly good enough to play that format," Phil Simmons told Trinidad's Newsday.

Please noooooh… Let's move on without these Prima Donnas. Why should they walk into the West Indies team? Are they good enough to do so?

Who would you drop anyway to let them in? Consider that Bravo and Co chose IPL above West Indies whilst Brathwaite, Blackwood and Holder have cemented their place in the team. Lets build around them and not revert to the untrustworthy disloyals who walked out on us in India.

And when Shiv retires Blackwood should take his spot and Holder should be promoted to #6. Let the Bravos have their IPL and leave us in peace.

Russell: Me back huting O Gawd…Ah canh play test cricket..

No mudda fcuking way!! We don't need them RA$$.
First, Narine uncertain because of issues.
Pollard in not a test player.
Bravo is now Holder
Ra$$el is not a test player he is now Holder also.
Simmonds has no interest and does not fit the rebuilding molt.

Narine with a rebuilt action has to prove himself in a season of domestic cricket before he can be considered for Test match cricket.

Gayle is at the end of his career & i dont think he wants to play Test matches anymore. I expect him to tell the new coach as much.

Lendl is in good form and while his 1st class career doesn't really say much, given the paucity of opening options he could definitely do a job for the WI. Who would you think is more likely to score a 50 against the Aussies: Lendl or Hope. Whoever is the answer should play the next Test.

I agree with the posters who say Holder should bat at 6. Russel would be a definite option at #7, while Bravo is good enough to bat at #5, once Shiv retires.

So Lendl, Bravo & Russell could all strengthen the WI team and,at least should be in the mix for Test selection.

They made that choice because of the hostile environment they were working in.

The hostile environment was created by arrogant bosses who saw the cricketers as underclass illiterates who should be thankful they were given a chance to play for the WI.

I agree with that, but why no Pollard?

In reply to Starbecause he can only bat 4 to 6 overs. would not be allowed to get away with that mickey mouse bowling.

I hope the first thing they talk about is reimbursement to the WICB for the millions to be paid to BCCI.
