...instead of the overall interest of West Indies cricket?
The article which led to my question above.
...And if so, must he Cameron continue to lead the WICB?
In one fell swoop, Clive Lloyd's genius is rebuked.

Did Cameron opt for political expediency...

Whatever happened to that Jamaican (and by extension, Caribbean) adage, "If yuh can't beat dem yuh join dem"?
Time to give it up, Courtesy.

Is the question relevant or not?
If it's irrelevant I will move on.
In reply to Courtesy
Yes!

Thanks much, Larr.

I will check whether the Guyana Cricket Board supported Cameron in his reelection bid for the Presidency of the WICB.
.........
Just checked it, No. The GCB did not support Cameron. I will move on from there.
In reply to Courtesy
I trust that you will
Directors overruling selectors - so what's new? How yuh think Selfishpaul became the scab cappo?
This is all part of di Hell agreement.
When you have licky licky selectors, and owned men posing as leaders they get away with this rubbish.
If the selectors have one shred of self respect left, they will explain their thinking and mek Cameron et al deal wid di results.
In reply to Chrissy
The board as per the WICB constitution has to ratify the selectors' team recommendation.
But I agree with the overall tenor of your thrust.
In reply to Chrissy
We all know how you love due process.
Blast from the past
Of course you didn't say a peep back then.
Will the Big Cat resign in light of this outrage?
What an egregious show of disrespect!
Expediency seems like a region-wide affliction-not only dogging Cameron and the WICB-where we tend to be more focused on personality than principle!
In reply to Commie
Dude, you are awesome

Where were you in 1998 when Rousseau tried to fire Lara and Hooper?
In reply to Chrissy
Why you getting all riled up? If the directors directed that Shiv play, they are only postponing the inevitable...
In reply to Chrissy
And they were reinstated partly because of the same Clive Lloyd.
And indeed you recently championed Rousseau as a man who KNOWS the Board constitution when he himself savaged Cameron.
You see how this roundabout goes ?
If Shiv fails as is likely it won't mean a thing so why all the angst ?
In reply to Commie
What the board should have done is invite Shiv and his family to Dominica, host a nice classy reception there for him, then have an event at the ground during lunch on the first day where they honor his service, present him with a medal, and invite other crickeing greats, Sobers, Lara, Viv, Lloyd to participate.
Playing him in two more tests when he's clearly past his best is silly. It just shows that they are not taking the cricket seriously.
In reply to Commie
Thanks Commie.
You always seem to be this great equalizer.
Carry on!
In reply to Larr Pullo
The board will host a reception at Bina
In reply to FanAttick
Or BiNA, THAT DIDN'T MEAN HE HAD TO PLAY.
In reply to Commie
Thanks Commie.
You always seem to be this great equalizer.
Carry on.
Ahmmmm!

I like that word, Controversy, if only because it eluded the HHGS Amen Corner when they used names like Courtesy; Commie; Cuter; Century; Cheeks; and for the life of me, I can't remember the "C" name used by Imran.
In reply to Larr Pullo
Who is better than Shiv ?
Shai Hope ?
You realise what the Presidents 11 match was for right.
You realise what they wanted to do.
Slot either Hope or Leon Johnson into the Shiv position and see who is next in line to open.
But to ensure Hope is protected they declined to play him in the Presidents 11 match.
Shiv needs to retire but its not going to hinder WI him playing these next two matches.
In reply to Larr Pullo
And of course this never dawned on you when they sent a second string team to SA to contest the Champions Trophy, even after the first team had ended their industrial action; When they had the useless Sammy as captain for 3 years running; Or when they gave the cricketing geriatric, Floyd Reifer, a "developmental" retainer contract simply for being a scab, etc?
In reply to Commie
That's irrelevant at this point. Shiv is clearly at the end of his career and Hope hasn't even started yet.
The question that should be asked is, what is to be gained by playing Shiv? Is Shiv getting an opportunity at attaining a record important in the realm of WI cricket?
We need to depart from the muddled thinking that has bedeviled us for so long. Shiv could be honored WITHOUT having him in the XI to play against Australia.
In reply to jacksprat
If you cannot stay on message get off my facking thread.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Leff dem!!
In reply to jacksprat
Dude Shut up!!! You always chuntering on about some crap that doesn't matter.
In reply to Larr Pullo
It does matter - not because you choose to forget that you supported dat crap.
Selection is supposed to be made on merit not as a long service award or because you sell out your team-mates on behalf of di Board or its sponsors.
In reply to Chrissy
Ummm in WI cricket there are no innocents, just situations!!!
In reply to Larr Pullo
Actually the answer is yes. You live in the US where players are routinely given the opportunity to break records and are cheered on by their fans and franchises.
The record is a milestone. He will never be as good as Lara or even thought of in the same breath. However he has earned the right because longevity is a form of excellence in a sport and region so bedevilled with politics.
In reply to Commie
Well said
In reply to Commie
The honest truth is that if Shiv really wanted that record, he could have gotten it already. When he had the opportunity to launch an assault on it, against Bangladesh, he batted like Bangladesh was bowling hand grenades. Then when the better bowling attacks came in the form of SA and Eng, he failed because HE IS DONE!!! Getting 4 more innings against Australia will not change anything. Ausies don't like their names in record books on the wrong side, so he will bat like he never batted before to get it against them.
In reply to Larr Pullo
It 'does not matter' because you are as unprincipled and opportunistic and as many of those involved with West Indies cricket!
In reply to Courtesy
You do not own this MB or the discourse that goes on here. If you want to keep up a private conversation send your friends a PM or an email!
This all boils down to lack of leadership and planning on the part of the WICB.
Why couldn't the WICB tell Shiv that the last series against England was to be his last and all the accolades and glitter presented to him in Barbados?
Further, if the WICB in their planning and wisdom wanted to keep Shiv going after the England series then why ask coach Phil Simmons to meet with him and perhaps embarrass the new coach in the end when he made a decision on Chanpaul.
In addition, I said it then, when the new coach was asked to meet with Shiv "that the board lacked the intestinal fortitude to take what seemed like an unpopular decision". Why expose Phil simmons to this pappyshow?
It appears, this latest saga and apparent reversal is only intended to save face and consolidate power in light of recent media reports that it was all over for Shiv and like good politicians...
In reply to jacksprat
OK mate, I have sent you a PM saying "fack off".
In reply to Courtesy
I agree on the planning but the home season would be the appropriate way forward given the spread of the tests allowing for a proper farewell.
After all its only 5 tests, which is a typical series in the past.
Instead the moment has been seized and a hero has been born.
is it a bird, is it a plane, no...its President Cameron, swooping in to rescue Shiv from the ungrateful selectors.
Super Dave

Super Dave failed to lead and plan so he could cast himself in the role as hero?

In reply to jacksprat
As my enemy I sent you another PM saying "fack off."

It's fairly obvious that this has nothing to do with Shiv, but is all about Commie people dem...
In reply to Larr Pullo
Political expediency?
And I ask again...is it in the overall interest of the organisation?
In reply to Courtesy
Really? Its long been known that the board had to sign off on the selectors' choice of skipper. Given the administrative function associated with that role (selector, disciplinary etc) it makes some sense.
However, I've never heard that the board had to ratify the playing XI. Never mind actually force a player into the team. That is crazy! The board in theory can then pick the entire playing XI.
In reply to Kurt
What is the function of the Cricket Committee of the WICB?
Who sits at the top of the organogram?
While on this you may wish to look up the meaning of ratify.
wasn't it reported that originally Shiv was told the oz series is his last and he should announce his retirement. he refused and therefore was dropped. so now he has been reinstated, will he announce his retirement or wait to be dropped?
In reply to sudden
He was told the England series would be his last.
And Phil Simmons was mandated to speak with him.
Vinode Mamchan...Chanders to miss out against the Aussies.

Lemme correct.
Dinas has spoken.
This is interesting.
