What exactly was his contribution in the one match we won against England?

True Cherri. Shiv is near the end, but for Pete's sake it can be done more gracefully.

Were any discussions had with Shiv before the Eng tour? Was he told if he had not performed well he would not be considered for the Aussie series?

I believe that after so many years of service to Windies cricket the situation could have been handled differently.

What is the message being sent to the youngsters? Is it devotion to Windies cricket or try to get an IPL or similar contract, because something similar to this can happen to any of you?

That's why many young people emigrate. Promotion and job openings being blocked by the superannuated (in sporting terms).

It is the way of the world, red in tooth and claw and unsentimental.

If the WICB knew that they were not going to pick Shiv after the England tour they should have met with him and let him know of their intentions to move on without him, I know for a fact that right after the England tour the coach met with him and while the talks were said to be cordial, shiv refused to see with them on the subject of his retirement, he told them straight up, he was not retiring, they then choose to go the way they went.......like I said before and will continue to say, it could have been handled better.........the WICB knew of these tours long before now, and they could have met with him long ago and indicate to him the direction they are going, and put him on notice that either the England series of the OZ series would be his last, he cannot make anyone pick him, and the fact that he was not at his best did not help his cause either.......Another thing, why you behaving like this is the first time the WICB has treated a player shabbily? this shit was going on for years and players still think that it cannot happen to them........

There is no need to tell anybody that. IT IS GIVEN if u dont perform over a period u will be dropped. An aspiring player can be forgiven for hanging on in hope that things will improve but a veteran? He should have the experience and the dignity to recognize when to bow out. Management had no choice in this case the decision had to be made.

......And truth be told, if he had contributed for just another 30 minutes at the crease in the second test, we would have save that match and won the series- we would have jumped 2 place in the ranking- so his failure against England caused the team a whole lot.

So what does this say. Will Windies cricket progress if this is still the modus operandi of those running its game? Such things they did to players previously was in an era when the said players had few options. Not so today.

Windies cricket will never get any way near the top, if this continues to be the way forward. Of all people, one would have thought, Lloyd would seek to do things differently. He allowed the Comrade to come across as the more understanding and sympathetic one.

I have often criticized players who, either said, or by their actions, seem to put Windies cricket lowest on their priority list.

The real message is now made clearer for them and those coming up behind them. Windies cricket will be the weaker for it.
