ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC):
Shaun Marsh struck a timely century to press his claim for a spot in the first Test against West Indies next week, but all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite smashed a cameo, unbeaten half-century and grabbed two wickets to inspire the West Indies President's XI on the second day of their three-day game here yesterday.
Left-hander Marsh finished the day on 118 not out as Australia closed on 205 for six in their first innings.
Adam Voges struck 52 in a 116-run, third-wicket partnership with Marsh, which pulled the tourists out of difficulty at 25 for two.
Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican was the main destroyer with three for 69 while Brathwaite collected two for 28 from his 14 overs - including the scalp of captain Michael Clarke for 15.

The selectors know how to manipulate ....
They select khan... But don't play him because they know he's better than worrican who is another rail Lewis or worse than Benn..

In reply to Controversy Exactly how would they know this? Warrican is 23. Khan is 30. Warrican, in his albeit brief career has bowling average, economy rate, strike rate of: 15.74, 2.29, 41.1. Khan's stats are: 22.46, 3.10, 43.4.
You can make a case for Khan's selection over Warrican based on experience by where is your evidence for writing off a 23 year spinbowler with superior stats, so far, to Khan's.
With the exception of Theophile (and wi are clearly looking for an opener)and the captain, most of the 11 selected are there because they are emerging players. Khan is not threatening Bishoo or Permaul so why should he play before a youngster with better stats than him?
Stop your foolishness.

Khan deserve to play before Warrican...Jason Mohammed should have bowled in this game also...he is being deprived a fair chance!

Warrican and Carlos with three wickets each as Australia are all out for 250...the only Aussies getting time in the middle were Shaun Marsh and Voges.
Mission accomplished....

In reply to WestDem Don't tell me I have to put you in the same class as mad-ass Controversy. (I won't do that cause that would be like putting Viv in the same class as Chandrika - another Controversy classic).
Mohammed is almost 29 years old with a first class average of 27. He is very lucky to be playing in this match. He has 21 wickets in 50 first class matches for TnT. That may reflect the fact that TnT has other spin bowling options but even so with a strike rate of 66.2 it does not suggest he has golden arm.
You are too big a man to let Controversy encourage you in foolishness. If you do and say the opposite of that guy you cant go wrong. If you are looking for a "wronged" player to champion fight for Deo instead cause as frustrating a player as he has been over the years he is a far more talented player than most being touted here and only 2 years older than Mohammed.

In reply to WestDem Man I don't want to make a habit of engaging that cretin. It's like fighting a midget - there is no upside, even in winning.

In reply to WestDem Not to be piling on on Mohammed (or Controversy for that matter) but Jonathan Carter is younger, has a marginally better batting average and significantly superior bowling stats at first class level to Mohammed. But nobody is making noise for Carter because after 51 irst class matches (about the same number as Mohammed) his stats are still mediocre.
They both are better limited overs prospects but even in the longer form of the game Carter would merit a play before Mohammed.

Carter needs to at least make runs in the PCL to get into the President's XI team? If you can't make runs against dung heap bowlers, how are you going to make runs against the Aussie bowlers?

Is this not a President X1, selected from performance in the last 4-day tournament?
Did Bishoo, Hope, Permaul not get selected from their performance also?
A number of these players will be in the next A team squad, that's how I see it.
